May 2019

I randomly stumbled upon angloville & signed up for the adult program. I almost thought of it as being too good to be true. I signed up for a program in Warsaw.

I thoroughly enjoyed the program. I met people from all walks of life & learnt so much from everyone involved. The day is broken into 1-1 as well as group activities. Entertainment hour in the evening is a lot of fun & relaxed.

Angloville looked after us very well. The venue was amazing set in the grounds of a palace. The food was delicious with an array of local dishes & fresh salads. A tea and coffee station on hand throughout the day.

This was a fantastic program, I won’t hesitate to book another. I would recommend this to anyone who is up for a fun and rewarding week abroad.

Time well spent

I decide to try the Angloville experience based on the recommendation of a friend who had participated several times. Everything he had to say about the program and experience was absolutely true.
I met interesting, often amazing people from all over the country as participants, and from all over the world as volunteers. People I would not have otherwise met or interacted with while traveling as a visitor.
Co-ordinators provided a wonderful variety of activities and exercises that helped bond us together as a group and encourage interaction and fun.
Some of the most relaxed and interesting conversations happened during the evening social hour.
Accommodations and meals were comfortable and (for the most part) tasty.
Well done! Would definitely go again.

What would you improve about this program?
I fully expect this comment comes from my own place of not living a life connected to the internet at all times but, here it goes: if participants could be encouraged to leave their mobile devices aside and not use them to look up and translate words into English when they are at a loss for the right word. An attempt to use the English words they do have to describe or make themselves understood would go much further to build their language skills. A word looked up and used once within 30 seconds is far more likely to be forgotten in the next instant than an attempt to try using what they already know. Fosters more practice too, don’t you think?

Amazing opportunity

I absolutely loved completing the Angloville program in Hungary and look forward to hopefully doing another program. I met amazing people, both participants and fellow volunteers and enjoyed every conversation I had. Plus, the Hungarian countryside was beautiful! The meals provided were filling, balanced, and delicious. Downside though is if you are a picky eater there is no choice in the meals so you may have a harder time. We were able to eat all meals together though, which is a welcomed change for solo travelers. There was a good balance of free time and volunteer time so I still had time to get things done personally that I needed to. The hotel we stayed at had a sauna, hot tub, and many groomed walking areas for exercise. Overall this was a great experience.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Work this program into your future travels! It makes solo travel much less boring.

Angloville

During March and April of this year (2019) completed three Angloville language emersion programs, the the experiences have been valuable ones. Every client who I encountered in Slovakia and in the Czech republic have been interesting and engaging people with a real desire to improve their English. I feel if I had gone straight into teaching English in one place I would not have learnt anywhere near as much about the people, their countries, and their cultures as I have on the Angloville programs. I certainly would not have the same understanding if the challenges they face in learning a new language.
Thanks to Angloville I have completed my qualification, a TEFL certificate through Premier TEFL, and can begin teaching English as a second language.

What would you improve about this program?
The only thing I feel could be looked into is what I think of as the volunteer phenomenon. People who volunteer for Angloville are themselves a diverse and interesting group. It might be possible to research the motivations people have for volunteering, and match them to the clients according to some criteria of compatibility.

So Amazing to Work with Motivated Participants

I recently completed 2 Adult Angloville Sessions back to back in Hungary and Czech Republic. It was fabulous to work with people who are eager to learn the English language so they can improve their work prospects or just converse better on a day to day basis. Angloville's immersive approach breaks down people's inhibitions and by the end of the week the participants are speaking more openly and excited to present information about themselves as a result of the mentor/mentee relationships that form with the volunteers throughout the week.
It is definitely an intense and at times tiring experience given the long days and sometimes nights with entertainment hours but definitely an enriching experience for volunteers and participants alike. Meeting people from all over the world is rewarding and lifelong connections are made.

What would you improve about this program?
Be prepared to share a room unless traveling with a family member or friend. Different sleep habits and routines take adjustment at times and can be anxiety provoking for both people, especially for us older folk :). This would be the only reason I would not volunteer again in future.
Also given the venues we go to are quite attractive it would be great to have an opportunity to enjoy the grounds with more free time and being offered a discount to enjoy what the facilities have to offer.

An incredible experience

I recently completed an incredible 6 back-to-back adult programmes with Angloville in Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic. Each venue was very good and the programmes and materials were all well-organised. It was a wonderful opportunity to meet volunteers and participants from all walks of life and ages from 18 to 74 and to help participants practise their English. Volunteers came from Australia, Canada, the USA, NZ and Britain. This gave participants the opportunity to speak to people with different accents and speaking speeds, which are two of the strengths of the programme. It was also very rewarding to see how much participants improved in both speaking and confidence during the week. I would thoroughly recommend this programme to any volunteer who likes travelling, meeting people and making friends and 1 plan to return to do more programmes in the future.

What would you improve about this program?
There is very little need for improvement as volunteers and participants are free to use the materials provided by Angloville or to discuss whatever each participant chooses.

Susan Norquay's Review

I had a wonderful time with Angloville. I spent three weeks in Poland (Wroclaw, Warsaw, and Gdansk) during March of 2019. I met wonderful people (facilitators, participants, and volunteers). My sessions with the participants were fun and educational and I will remember those I mentored for the rest of my life. I found the program to be well organized and the pacing to be perfect. I was never rushed or bored.

All three venues were beautiful. I was very comfy and well fed.

I am very glad I was part of this program. I learned as much as I taught. I feel much more courageous about travelling alone and I gained valuable teaching, tutoring, and mentoring experience. I feel I will be able to go forward in my ESL/EFL teaching career with confidence. I would gladly do this all again.

Susan

What would you improve about this program?
Many of the participants told me that, while they were very happy with the program, they would like more English instruction along with the conversations. In particular, they told me they would have liked more grammar lessons and correction.

Fun fun fun

Great opportunity to meet and talk with people from a foreign country. Food was great and accommodations comfortable . I loved the opportunity to talk with people from all over the world. It was a great way and a different way to visit a foreign country. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming. We had 3 delicious meals a day. The hotel we stayed in had a pool, had a jacuzzi and it had a sauna. The location was in the mountains and it couldn’t have been more beautiful. The participants were so open and friendly. They were very conscientious about speaking in English and really had a desire to learn. Our group was very social and if all ages and backgrounds. Everyone was welcoming and friendly. I don’t know what else to say but this site is making me write this much!

What would you improve about this program?
A field trip to the town near the resort would have added to the experience.

Fabulous experience!

It's difficult to find the words to describe what an amazing experience volunteering with Angloville is. I did 2 in a row, the 1st one in the beautiful mountains in Slovakia & the 2nd one in Transylvania, Romania. Both were superb. I met the most interesting, wonderful people, enjoyed great accommodation, yummy food & loads of fun & laughs. The program is professional, successful & at times tiring, especially for the language learners but I would do it again in a heart beat. It is one of the best experiences you'll have! If you like people, love talking, eating, lovely accommodation & enjoy helping & supporting someones English language learning journey, then please don't hesitate to join one of the various Angloville programs. Eastern Europe has lots of hidden gems that are waiting to be discovered and this opportunity will show you some of them.

What was the most surprising thing you saw or did?
Whilst in Transylvania, I was able to fulfil a lifelong fantasy of visiting Bran Castle, better known as Dracula's Castle!

A good experience for everyone!

I have been to three Angloville programmes now, two in Poland and one in Romania and each one has been as good as I had hoped for or better. The venues have all been great.

But my favorite parts have been the people. I have found that the students have been bright and motivated and they have been very interesting. I have had many great conversations and made many friends

But a pleasant surprise was my fellow volunteers. Almost all of them have been friendly as I had hoped. But they have also been very interesting. They come from many different places and have different backgrounds. I love that each time there have been a variety of ages as well.

I will treasure my memories and friendships. If I can arrange it, I will go back again and again.
