About Program

The Prague Film School Acting for Film program offers an intensive, conservatory style curriculum. The course helps actors recalibrate their performances for the screen and provides students the skills to embark on a successful career in film and television. Students rigorously train in on-camera acting, voice, movement, acting theory and the business of acting. The program makes use of a variety of techniques ranging from Meisner‘s behavior-based method, to technically oriented exercises designed to hone performances for camera.

Students are placed in front of the camera from day one of the course and receive rigorous training in class and on set. Monologue and scene-work daily develop students' ability to hone their performances for the camera – both habituating students to the specifics related to acting for various shot sizes and blocking arrangements but also developing their skills to be able to deliver believable and compelling performances.

Program Highlights

  • Focus on film acting - while acting courses can be found virtually everywhere, very few offer a live-and-breathe total immersion experience aimed at re-calibrating one‘s performance for the screen.
  • Experience on set - more than 400 films are shot per year and actors participate on as many as 30 productions. They then learn the specific skills that make up the film acting craft but also leave the program with substantial material for a show reel
  • Access to local casting directors, agents and small to big budget film productions. - Not only is Prague a beautiful historic location with an active student life, but hundreds of Hollywood, Netflix and HBO productions have been shot in the city.
  • International - students in the course come from all over the world. This both enriches the course with a diverse palette of acting traditions and also provides students an invaluable network of international contacts to access upon graduating.

Acting for Film is an Excellent Experience

Really loved every minute of the Prague Film School "Acting for Film" class - the instructors were first class and outstanding and what we learned was way beyond my expectations! I am a mature student so I was worried about fitting in. However, from day one, the school and staff were incredibly welcoming and warm hearted. The class were also amazing, talented and open. The location, buildings, workshop spaces were perfect and ideal for the class. The professionalism and passion for the craft of acting could be felt in all aspects of this course. I would highly recommend the course but be prepared to stretch yourself and put in the time and effort. You'll be glad you did.

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
Doing a live theatre showcase in front of 25 Film Directors (after two weeks) - but it all worked out very well in the end. It's always good to discover new things about yourself and be open to where it takes you.

Best Experience for Actors and Filmmakers!

I loved my time studying abroad at Prague Film School — I felt like I reached a lot of personal discoveries about my work as an actor, and all of our professors were so engaged with and responsive to all of my questions. It was an amazing step in my journey, and I also made an astounding number of friends that I still keep in touch with. My time there was brief but I will always be grateful for the mentorship and also the freedom to explore my talents and learn about the business of film acting. I even got to try learning editing and film writing. I'd recommend PFS to anyone looking for a creative outlet with resources to help you improve!!

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
I would plan my free weekends and travel plans ahead of time — PFS was flexible enough to where you definitely have time to see other places and explore Czechia/neighboring countries, and I wish I took more advantage of that!
Pros
  • Responsive teachers who cared about all of our progress
  • Multiple opportunities to experience all sides of filmmaking
  • Creative range of elective classes to take
Cons
  • Sometimes long days, intensive coursework

Acting for Film

This is an amazing program in an amazing city. The staff was super helpful in getting us student tram passes, allowing easy access to the city, as well as helping us audition for local gigs. The program itself is amazing, with lots of opportunities to get on sets and be in films. The staff is very helpful and very honest, and I went in with minimal experience and left with confidence in myself !

The city itself is BEAUTIFUL, and the school is close to shops and the river. The housing is also nice, and the school community is strong.

What was the most surprising thing you saw or did?
We filmed a western in this gorgeous park. The nature was beautiful and it was awesome to be in the woods. Movie looked sick too.
Pros
  • Beautiful, affordable city with good public transit
  • Lots of opportunities to be on film sets
  • Good teaching
Cons
  • Time intensive, so hard to travel to other countries

An experience to say the least!

I studied the “Acting for film” year program between fall 2023 and spring 2024. During my time at PFS I lived with student housing and enjoyed all of my flatmates. The education was incredible and explored both theoretical and practical way of learning about filmmaking and acting in different ways. I got to meet a lot of wonderful people and create strong friendships with other students and the community feeling surrounding PFS is welcoming and exciting. I would definitely recommend anyone who is interested in filmmaking, acting or documenting to apply to this school!

My funniest moment was on set with all of my friends while we were shooting a project together and having a really good time.
