About Program

At the Lex Fellowship, pre-law students rotate to a new firm each day, where they can expect to gain a deeper understanding of day-to-day life in the legal field. This is done by completing case studies and meeting with firms and attorneys throughout the host cities. In addition, they develop a deep appreciation for the rich cultures our site locations have to offer.

Here at Lex, we know that law school is a significant investment of time and financial resources. By attending a program with Lex, you can start to determine if law school is right for you. For seven years, we have been the best opportunity for real-world legal instruction to interested pre-law students. Our programs are designed for students that are ready to take their law school applications to the next level. What better way to gain hands-on experience with diverse cases, fields and lawyers than in the fast-paced and beautiful city of London!

London December Trip

We were able to visit four different firms with their specialties. These included international arbitration, insurance, contracts, and mediation. Each firm would give us a case with a series of questions for us to formulate answers with limited information provided to us. This was the academic and intellectual challenge of Lex Fellowship. The insurance firm especially challenged me to defend positions that had already disadvantaged me compared to the alternative positions assigned to other group members. The legal training sessions were very informative and helped me begin the process of creating a plan to tackle my applications this fall. This included what should and *SHOULD NOT* be included in a personal statement. As well as LSAT prep and how to create and refine a resume.
I would not consider London to be the biggest cultural shock out of the programs available, but it is one place I plan to return to. Overall I would Highly recommend this particular program to anyone wanting to pursue a career in the legal field

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
Would have been willing to spend more time with the rest of the group instead of being as independent as I was.
Pros
  • Organized
  • Great people in my group
  • city manager was on top of everything
Cons
  • it was only a week
  • it rained a lot
  • hotel rooms were very small

Review of Lex Fellowship Winter Program in London

Exploring London's historical architecture became a highlight of my Lex Fellowship Winter Program. Visits to iconic landmarks like Parliament, Big Ben, and The Tower Bridge added a unique dimension to my legal studies. The diverse culinary experiences, from traditional British fare to international cuisines, enhanced the overall flavor of the experience.

The program not only met but exceeded my expectations. Its well-structured approach offered a comprehensive overview of various legal fields, laying a solid foundation for aspiring legal professionals. Meticulous organization, precise scheduling, and well-coordinated cultural excursions ensured a seamless and purposeful daily experience.

The integration of cultural exploration seamlessly complemented the legal aspect. Marveling at London's historical architecture and indulging in diverse cuisines created a perfect blend of professional development and immersive experiences. Kudos to the organizers for meticulous planning and execution, evident in the well-rounded nature of the program.

A standout feature was the abundance of networking opportunities. Engaging with professionals like Virginie Colauita from LMS law firm and Dru Corfield from Fenchurch Law provided valuable insights and potential avenues for future career growth – truly enriching.

The visit to Old Bailey Criminal Court was an eye-opener. Sitting in on court proceedings provided a fascinating insight into the legal system in the UK. Comparing it to the American system added a valuable cross-cultural perspective, enriching my understanding of legal practices.

Undoubtedly a once-in-a-lifetime experience, the after-hours private tour of Parliament was beyond memorable. Exploring the iconic halls and chambers, coupled with the rare opportunity to meet and converse with a member of the Sergeant at Arms, offered an unparalleled glimpse into the heart of British governance.

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
One of the most nerve-wracking moments for me occurred during our visit to Fenchurch Law firm with Dru Corfield. The challenge to engage in public speaking and debating within teams not only tested our legal prowess but also pushed us to navigate time management and collaborative group dynamics. It was a multifaceted challenge, requiring us to not only educate ourselves thoroughly on the topic but also to present confidently and persuasively, akin to the quick-thinking and articulate styles of legal figures like Ross and Harvey Specter. This exercise provided a real-world simulation, emphasizing the importance of on-the-spot interpretation and effective communication in a legal context.
Pros
  • Comprehensive Legal Overview
  • Cultural Integration + Unique Experiences
  • Networking Opportunities
Cons
  • Intensive Schedule
  • Better Packing and Preparations

Lex Fellowship London

I absolutely loved this program. I learned so much about law and what different specialized law firms actually do. I feel like law is one of those jobs where you can say you are a lawyer, but nobody actually knows what that entails. I loved visiting the law firms, and I loved participating in the legal trainings, especially the 1L crash courses. London was so charming, and I fell in love with the city and the people in it. I was so sad to leave London and the program, and I would go back and do it again in a heartbeat.

Pros
  • Law visits and legal trainings
  • History and culture
  • Support staff- Olga and Rachel were great!
Cons
  • Heat wave :(
