A great educational and fun experience in Guatemala

This programme was a fantastic opportunity. I had a great experience and the course allowed for a truly immersive cultural experience and to learn about permaculture from various experts around the beautiful Lake Atitlan.

One of the most enjoyable moments was getting to stay with a local family in Quixaya while volunteering with them for 2 weeks. Working alongside them every day was the most interesting cultural experience and we really got to know them and their family. I also had plenty of enjoyable moments with friends from the course hanging out alongside the lake and just enjoying the beautiful scenery and nature.

I think the overall experience was great and could be a useful experience for almost anyone. Whether that is someone who lives a sheltered life and could do with engaging in different experiences or if it is someone who is keen on throwing themselves into the deep end and wants to build and construct their experience around ideas they already have.

Amazing opportunity

My experience with the programme was extremely positive. Studying for the PDC has made me consider how to best implement sustainable practices in my life back in the UK. The staff are very supportive throughout the whole experience. We got to stay with host families in San Juan La Laguna and attend the local Spanish school which was amazing. The Acatenango volcano hike has to be a highlight. Going on this programme allows you to get a different perspective on Guatemala as you can spend an extended amount of time there as opposed to just passing through. This is definitely an opportunity not to be missed!!

Great way to get to know guatemala and permaculture!!

A very diverse and interesting experience, a great way to get to know permaculture and Guatemala/Atitlan, amazing interaction with local culture and spirituality, as well as practical skills in permaculture and bioconstruction.
The highlights for me were interacting with the local people and culture, such as in IMAP or working with families like in Bicho Raro, and being able to learn Spanish to be able to communicate.
I now feel much more confident going outside of my comfort zone, confronting topics I am not familiar with and taking in new knowledge as well as applying it to different contexts
