Take advantage of Ireland’s rich theatre, literary and historical culture by engaging in the study and practice of Irish theatre from historical and contemporary contexts.
• Study acting techniques from Program Director Christine Nicholson, MFA
• Learn the skills of dramaturgy from Philippa Kelly, PhD and Resident Dramaturg, California Shakespeare Theater
• Live and study at two leading Irish universities: Trinity College, Dublin and National University of Ireland, Galway
• Attend plays at famous theatres such as the Abbey and Peacock
• Visit numerous historical and cultural establishments including the Galway Arts Festival and major sites associated with the Irish struggle for independence
Closely examine the evolution of Irish Theatre, from the influence of British colonialism to contemporary issues such as in-ward migration and how it challenges what it means to be Irish. Explore the craft of acting as a means of understanding the performer's contribution to theatre.
