About Program

The Siena School Sustainability Track focuses on the social and cultural aspects of sustainability in regards to our food systems and environment. Food and food culture are starting point for our exploration; as a way to establish a connection with our partners in the area, and address the complexities of the sustainability debate. Through a critical examination of the concept of sustainability, personal inquiries and meaningful cooperation, we aim at inspiring new and insightful notions of sustainability. Our approach is humanities based and emphasizes the importance of the social underpinnings of the subject.

Program Aims:
•A true reciprocal exchange experience (meaningful relationships between students, their host families, and our community and agricultural partners);
•Teamwork among students, faculty, and staff to implement on campus sustainable initiatives;
•Learning about regional Italian food cultures and their wider importance in relation to sustainability movements.
