- Martinique
About Program
Ace immersion in radiant Martinique! For this six-week program, the island of flowers, Martinique, provides an expansive backdrop engaging with issues surrounding the slave trade, colonization, and environmental fragility. Martinique's rich literary and cultural traditions have informed intellectual movements across the US, Europe, and Western Africa for centuries.
Take two courses, taught in French in a wide range of subjects such as environmental studies, Caribbean history and immigration, and Caribbean Francophone literature from women writers. Customized French language support sessions are scheduled weekly and learn the basics of Creole.
Cultivate a lasting relationship with a welcoming host family and benefit from a curated culture package including a visit of Fort-de-France, concerts, theater, dance, a cooking class, and more. Day trips to the north and south parts of the island and a weekend excursion to the French island of Guadeloupe round out the activities.
