About Program
SEA offers two summer programs for undergraduates: Pacific Reef Expedition and Protecting the Phoenix Islands.
With PACIFIC REEF EXPEDITION, students participate in oceanographic research while making an epic 2,600-nautical mile passage across the Equator from Tahiti to Hawaii. You'll retrace historic voyages of Polynesian migration and master time-tested navigation methods that rely on the sun, stars, and moon. You'll also visit some of the most remote island atolls in the world to document the effects of environmental change.
PROTECTING THE PHOENIX ISLANDS is a journey to an underwater Eden, one of the last coral wilderness on Earth. Join a limited group of students alongside world-renowned experts for an unprecedented scientific research voyage to the Phoenix Islands Protected Area. Explore the world’s largest – and deepest – UNESCO World Heritage Site while creating a policy plan to ensure its protection. An incredible learning and networking opportunity.
