Study Abroad in the Heart of Central America - Costa Rica

At the Costa Rica Center, located in Heredia City, students have the opportunity to study the factors that make up Central America today. Costa Rica is an ideal location as a departure point for the rest of the region since it shares many of the characteristics common to other Latin American countries while offering an interesting comparison.

First-year students will live with a local host family, where they will be immersed in the Spanish language and local culture. They will engage in a curriculum that will lay the foundation for their entire LIU Global education, take field trips around the region to gain hands-on experiences, and gain a Latin American perspective on global issues such as economic development, environmental sustainability, and human rights. Students also study local industry, work in local social enterprises and NGOs, and travel to nearby countries like Nicaragua and Panama.
