Salary / Benefits

Salary: 13,000 RMB - 14,500 RMB per month (Salary amounts include 1,000 accommodation allowance per month. With monthly project bonus amounts go up to 16,000 per month depending on area)

I'll boil this review into three main points: professional intregity, respect, prosperity.

professional intregity: MEF takes every necessary step to provide its employees with all legal documentation. Sometimes this take an extra while to get together...but trust me, it worth it!

professional respect: MEF provides you with multiple options and always encourages you to make the choice thats best for you. Example: you have several options in regional placement...maybe you want to live in a big city, maybe a little farther out...you decide. Same with housing: you are so forced into sharing rent, you have free choice to take a single bedroom for personal privacy.

professional prosperity: cost of living is cheap in China and your salary is very competitive. Feel free to live a lavish life of great food and frequent travel....or maybe set aside half your wages to pay off those pesky student loans. Either way its totally viable

What is your favorite travel memory?

Shaolin Temple; training with little monks. Really an eye opener on life and how the view can be from different people... Traveling wise, when you are living in a foreign country, most people explore and see so much more. I think most teachers teaching abroad spend most weekends exploring new cities, things and so much more traveling that they did before they left their country.

How have you changed/grown since working for your current company?

The company has evolved and grown in so many ways. Each month seems like we have taken another step. China is definitely a challenge. After living in Japan for eight years, South Korea for 1, France for 2, (and being Canadian), I thought that China would be a breeze. The learning growth for the company and for myself has been amazing and it definitely takes a team. There is always more to learn, explore and we constantly get better.

What is the best story you've heard from a return student?

We work with the teachers. I don't get into the client business side of things much but mainly handle the training teachers, cultural communication, problem solving, developing the curriculum, improving the teaching system. Returning or rather continuing teachers in the program (staying for more than one contract). I get to hear all kinds of stories. The best stories involve teachers being able to travel and have real experiences like locals inviting teachers to go paragliding, making dumplings, water-skiing, etc.

If you could go on any program that your company offers, which one would you choose and why?

We are not a program provider (our ESL teaching program is for kindergarten children), but teachers are able to go step-by-step inside the classroom to learn how to teach young children in a fun and exciting way. I think each teacher has their own interests, but I recall being a teacher once myself, going abroad to teach, and how every weekend was an adventure.

What makes your company unique? When were you especially proud of your team?

I am involved with the part of our company that can really help foreign teachers to get through the cultural differences in the best way possible and have the experience of a life time. I think China can be a challenge and Chinese people have a hard time understanding the concerns and feelings of foreign teachers. We definitely do all that is possible to bridge that gap.

What do you believe to be the biggest factor in being a successful company?

We believe in a win-win-win strategy. This means the students/parents are happy and excited to be in our program, where our kindergartens are proud of our teachers, and where the teachers are able to feel they made the best decision to go and teach in China in the M.E.F. program using the M.E.F. system.
