First Term Experience

I have been working in China as an English teacher for four months now, and I'm thourougly enjoying it. TLE have done a great job with setting me up here and getting a job at a school with access to lots of resources and a strong support system. They have also provided me lots of help for any problems or questions I might have. However, I do wish they would provide more support to help new teachers develop their skills, like with hosting more programs that help with practicing and trying new teaching methods.

Overall a very helpful company for getting you through the door and making sure all your needs are met, but once you've settled in they tend to take a hands-off approach, though they are on hand to provide help if requested, so be mindful of that.

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?
Since coming here I have tried all sorts of different meat from many animals, especially pigs, cows, chickens and ducks, and fish but also more peculiarly jellyfish, snails and oysters.
Pros
  • Friendly and open environment with likable people
  • Great opportunity to explore and work
Cons
  • difficult in the first few weeks
  • Hard to adapt if you don't have all the necessary documents or apps
  • knowing some Chinese is basically mandatory

My experience in China with TLE

This week, I reached the 'One Month' milestone of living in China! I am happy to say my experience with TLE has been positive since I landed! I was greeted at the airport by friendly and familiar faces, who helped me navigate the metro and brought me to my hotel- making me feel much less alone in a very new city! Since arriving in China, TLE have provided outstanding care and support. They have helped me through the transition into my school, the process of finding and renting my apartment, and even recommended restaurants and things to do! TLE also has organised social events and outings through which I have met many lovely people. There is such a community of caring and kind individuals here, whose help has made my first month in China truly special.

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?
I have eaten lots of unfamiliar foods since arriving here in Shenzhen, especially at lunch in my school! The most unfamiliar thing I ate was eel! It was actually very delicious and I would eat it again!
Pros
  • Opportunities to build relationships with other teachers through TLE events.
  • Care and support when I needed to visit the doctor!
  • Kindness and care from the TLE team members!

Every Detail Managed, Every Step Supported

From the moment I landed at SZX, the wonderful people at TLE have been excellent in assisting my integration into China. Their onboarding process is very streamlined. Within 2 days I had all the essentials I needed to live in China. They've also been able to accommodate any additional requests I've had. Furthermore, TLE has proven to be an invaluable liaison between myself and the school I work at. They have the expertise and experience to handle any situation that may arise, and they truly care about their teachers.

TLE are amazing!

I have just arrived in China and am so thankful that I have had TLE by my side this whole time. China is very different to my home (UK) which means that coming here to work can be very scary and difficult. Even before I left the UK, the TLE staff have helped me every step of the way, from visas and flights to apartments and teacher training. Coming to China can be hectic at times but TLE are there to take away any stress so that you only have to do the bare minimum. I really can't recommend them enough as each and every one of them are not only great at their jobs but also just wonderful people!

Very Positive Experience

TLE have been excellent help in making the transition to teaching in China. They provide consistent support and guidance, and arrange fun social activities. The training not only helped guide my lessons but also connected me to other teachers & formed some strong friendships! And there review lessons help you keep improving as a teacher. Whenever there have been small issues along the way TLE have been a great helping hand. Would recommend them & the experience in general to anyone thinking about applying.

Teaching in China has been such an amazing adventure and I couldn’t have done it without the help and support of TLE. From beginning to end, TLE has helped logistically and personally, from visa assistance to teaching support and travel recommendations. TLE always made an effort to create opportunities to meet other likeminded teachers and to better understand and integrate into Chinese culture!

They have been a rock throughout my experience and are an essential to anyone moving to China for the first time!

An unforgettable year in China!

I arrived in China over a year ago with a mix of emotions — excitement, hope, anxiety, nerves, and everything in between.

Talent-E have been a huge part of my time in Shenzhen. They placed me with a school and supported my entry into the country, helping with everything from housing and mobile networks to the essential things you need to settle into life in China. That support didn’t stop once I arrived either — they continued to be there throughout the year.

As time goes on, you naturally become more independent, but Talent-E have always been ready to help when needed, whether that’s arranging doctor’s appointments, offering teaching advice, or even recommending places to eat. I really can’t speak highly enough of the support I received, including towards the end of my contract.

I’m very grateful for my experience. I’ve made lasting friendships and genuinely enjoyed the job I was given. It’s been an unforgettable year.

I’d say working with an agency like Talent-E is essential when getting set up in China. The first few months aren’t always easy — there’s a lot to learn and a definite culture shock — but Talent-E do a great job of minimising that as much as possible. I’m thankful for their support and would recommend working with them.

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?
One of my good friends from school took me to try hot pot. Alongside trying some unfamiliar foods such as tripe and intestines, I also tried pig brain!

I never imagined I’d try food like this and ultimately enjoy it! I wouldn’t necessarily say I’d order this again but I’ll never forget my experience of trying some traditional food with good friends whilst immersing in Chinese culture over dinner.
Pros
  • Round the clock support across many issues.
  • Training and guidance.
  • The opportunity to create lifelong memories
Cons
  • Very busy and tiring first few weeks with a lot to do but this is to be expected and essential.
