Yes, I recommend this program

A Great School for New and Experienced Teachers.

York English runs a fantastic program with schools across Southern China. I worked for the school in Fuzhou which is a lovely city halfway between Hong Kong and Shanghai making it the perfect starting place for traveling China. Before joining York I had never taught (or really interacted that much) with young children, but I have to say the training and support that I received when I started was amazing. Teaching is really challenging when you start out but York really guides you through the process thanks to the work of the Academic Coordinators and Senior Teachers.

The curriculum at York is really good. Everything is all laid out for you meaning you don't need to reinvent the wheel as you are learning how to teach, but you still have a lot of freedom to bring your own ideas into the class, which I appreciated. The classrooms have Interactive White Boards and the teacher's office is well stocked with supplies.

I think one of the biggest benefits was the amazing admin staff that York has available to help. They help you through the whole visa process (and pay for it too!) and when you arrive they make sure your apartment is set-up and ready for you (and they pay for this as well!). If you need to see a doctor or send money home their admin staff are there to help as well!

My only real complaint was that around public holidays you need to sometimes make up days work in order to create a longer holiday, but from what I understand this is done across China and in public schools as well so I am not sure there is anything they can do about it. I suppose its just part of the experience of living abroad.

Overall I think York has done a fantastic job and I really enjoyed my time there.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
This is a great program to join if you want to both teach and travel. They give lots of holidays and the locations are well-connected meaning you can travel to anywhere in China or Asia quite easily (and cheaply). With that said, York English takes teaching quite seriously, which I personally found wonderful. If you are just looking for a job where you can show up and scrape by then this is not a great school for you. If you want to really learn how to teach amazing classes and have an impact on your student's then you have found the right place!
