Romania Summer Paid TEFL Internship with Premier TEFL

Why did you choose this program?

I chose to go to Romania as it was a new adventure and a little out of my comfort zone. The programme seemed well organised and straightforward. There was good communication between me and the organisers which made me feel ready for prepared to go. I was intrigued by Romania and the culture as I had never been.

What did your program provider (or university) assist you with, and what did you have to organize on your own?

I organised and paid for my own flights and that was all I had to do. I was picked up at the airport and had transport the whole time, even in leisure time. All food and trips were organised. I never had to think about any organisation, it was all provided for me. If I wanted to go out in my free time, transportation would be organised for me too.

What is one piece of advice you'd give to someone going on your program?

It might be a little scary to venture to a new country for a new experience but it is a once in a lifetime opportunity. The experience makes you more aware of other cultures and how fun travelling can be! You also make some great friends and get an incredible experience that will make you want to go back!

What does an average day/week look like as a participant of this program?

You wake up and do some morning exercise with the children. Then you teach classes for a few hours. In the afternoon you help with activities - sports, art, etc then in the evening you can help out evening activities such as movie night or disco. There is some flexibility with activities that you help out with.

Going into your experience abroad, what was your biggest fear, and how did you overcome it? How did your views on the issue change?

I was nervous about going to a country I wasn't familiar with but now I consider it to be one of my favourite places. I felt safe and always had access to local friends to help with translation. It was my first teaching experience so I was a little nervous because of this but it was a great opportunity as the lessons were fun and pressure free.
