Good for Solo Travelers, Adventure travelers

Without really knowing what was going to happen at the end of the course, my son and I just packed our bags and traveled to Siem Reap-Cambodia, in March 2023. DT promised to deliver and did just that. I had an adventure of my life not only in class but also outside of class. I have met people from different parts of the world and made some life long friends.
I am now more confidant of looking for work any where in South East Asia, and not just in Cambodia because of my Destinations TEFL certificate.
I will always remember my experience @Destinations TEFL-CambodiaI.

Pros

Money spent was worth it. Lots of materials to cover
Program well suited for everyone, especially those who do not have teaching background.
Actual teaching practicals were great exposure.

Cons

Climate- was quite hot for some of us.
Trying to do boarder run through Poipet to renew visa was quite challenging

Visited a temple on Kulen mountain on our way to the Kulen water fall.

I just recently finished the course and was very satisfied about everything- our Teacher Angie was just superb - going extra mile for after class grammar lesson.
Willie always available to help with what ever information we needer outside class aswell. Found our feet alot faster and great to make friends for a life time! All the information they have been providing about visa and interviews, job placement has been super helpful.
I am very excited to see what the future holds in Cambodia for me and my husband.

So I have recently just finished this course and could bot be happier. I already had a level 5 TEFL but doing something online and having the actual practical experience in a classroom is completely different.
It is more like joining a new family than doing a course. All the staff are exceptional and very supportive.
It is hard work dont get me wrong, but everything they do has purpose to prepare you for the realities of being a teacher.
I've now finished feeling like I could confidently teach anywhere.

After completing my level 5 TEFL diploma at an online academy i felt like i was still lacking in a lot of ways. I could not have been more excited when i found Destination TEFL!
They have the best fast track option that adds you to the program for the last 2 weeks to learn all about and take part in classroom practicals. Without Destination TEFL i would not have been ready to start my teaching career.
The tutors, Tina and Chy, are amazing! They are always ready to help you no matter what the question and give such good feedback for you to learn from and to grow.

After an exhaustive online search, I stumbled upon Destination TEFL Siem Reap and knew that I had found the TEFL programme that was perfect for me.
From the beginning they gave detailed and honest answers to my many questions which immediately made me feel at ease.
As soon as we had our virtual meeting/Q&A session I was ready to pack my bags and head to Cambodia for the adventure of a lifetime.
The course can be demanding as it packs a lot into four weeks but if you apply yourself, keep on top of your assignments and are well prepared for your teaching practicals, you will succeed.
Along with the hard work you will definitely have time for fun and adventure as you discover more about yourself and the new country you will soon call home.

Sometimes you just look back and think, I regret doing this, but I don’t regret a thing with DestinationsTEFL. They were professional till the end. What this means is the people at DestinationsTEFL run a tight ship, you are expected to follow the rules and not make a mess of the training center nor yourself.They put in effort and assisted when things became stressful, like when my visa was not going to go through. They went with me to the immigration offices and talked to the officials. They kept track of all my business regarding my work and stay visas. Honestly I can’t recommend them enough. What was your funniest moment?

One day our Trainer Tina had us play a game based on question and answer for you to find a person who shares one of your experiences. The experience was based on cloths you’ve worn. This trainer goes up to the big burly American and wanting to show what happens if you have a experience that doesn’t match ask him: “have you ever worn a thong” the class erupts and goes bananas! The thing was after we all stoped laughing he looked appalled. Apparently not due to the question, because this man just replies, with the honesty of a saint, “yes I have”. Never in my life have I seen a trainer so taken aback and a class go this crazy. I still tease him about it. Best moment ever

I didn't really know what to expect from the course but it has been fantastic!
Destination TEFL really do put you in a position where you feel comfortable to teach abroad.
They introduce you to the culture and you always feel like you are in a healthy environment

What is your favorite travel memory?

In 2014, I walked the Camino de Santiago - 750km across northern Spain. I met the most amazing people from all over the world and from different walks of life. I'm still friends with them today.

The experience taught me that it's the people that make a journey worthwhile and the things you remember most about a trip. It also taught me to push myself both physically and mentally, and that we need far less in life than we think, as for a month you carry everything you need on your back.

How have you changed/grown since working for your current company?

I've learned to be a lot more patient! This is not something that comes naturally to me, but I've learned that dealing with people from all over the world, not everyone will do things as you'd like them done, and time in Asia is not the same as time in the West - and you just have to accept this and adapt.

What is the best story you've heard from a return student?

Two students met on a course and are subsequently married! Aside from this TEFL love story, we have seen friendships form and blossom - the type of friends that are there for life. Spending an intense month together creates bonds and friendships that are deep. These are often the most unlikely of friendships, and students meet people that they normally would never in their day-to-day lives, so they broaden their friendship and networking base beyond their comfort zone.

Years later we still hear of graduates meeting up and sharing memories at reunion events.

If you could go on any program that your company offers, which one would you choose and why?

Well, that is a difficult one! I'd say try one of our 'See two countries' programs, whereby you do the course in either Koh Samui, and then move on to teach in Cambodia or Vietnam, or do the course in Siem Reap, and move on to teach in Thailand or Vietnam. This will give you more places to tick off your bucket list, and you'll get a taste of different locations.

The course does cover Asian culture in general, so we equip you to teach students in all locations.

What makes your company unique? When were you especially proud of your team?

Our students are not just numbers. We take pride in the fact that we remember each and every student who has passed through our training centre. Most of them have chosen to stay in touch, and we do encourage this, not only with us but also their classmates so that they keep a strong network in the industry.

Our trainers are passionate about teaching and the English language. Our motto - Creating Passionate Teachers - was born because they really do expect their trainees to be passionate about their new careers too. You cannot teach something you are not passionate about, and you need to want your students to learn and succeed too.

What do you believe to be the biggest factor in being a successful company?

All the directors are hands-on and involved in the company. We have a great team at the training centres who are highly qualified to train our TEFL students. All of us have lived in Asia and have been teachers ourselves at some point.

When someone applies to do the course, we understand that for them, it's a big decision and that it may be their first time abroad or living away from home. As we have all been there ourselves before, we don't take this lightly and offer support along the way, right from the decision-making process to support after the course.

We believe in providing a quality course and not just churning out teachers. We often get feedback from schools on how great the new TEFL teachers are and the techniques which they implement in class.
We also don't believe in stagnating. We are constantly developing the course and the programs on offer.
