TEFL Madrid Academy is simply the Best!

The local staff helped me with absolutely everything throughout my program. I had already been in Spain for a number of years, so a lot of my things were already sorted out regarding hous- ing, visa, bank card, etc. Even so, there are always little tweaks and kinks in the road that you can’t really foresee, and the program was there to back me up literally every time. Every little question I had about my visa, even though I was already going through the process for the fifth time, they were there to help. All of my questions about what to do when I was unsure of certain things that were going wrong with my bank account, or even the right questions to ask when renting an apartment even though I had already done it, they helped me out. Everything from serious paper- work right down to little pieces of advice, the staff in my program were there to help me. That is to say, they even did things for me that weren’t really part of their job, answered questions that weren’t really their concern, and supported me so I could get by. For that I can say they are not just staff at my program, but they are people, even friends, that just want to help, from one person to another.
Even during the most confusing parts of my process, I knew I could rely on the academy to make things clear to me. Because of this I never felt like I was alone or lost. Coming to a new country and doing a TEFL class can be both daunting and confusing, and it’s important to have a good support system because honestly the long list of things to do and the confusion can be enough to turn anyone off from going abroad. But with staff like I had, you realise it’s not really that hard, it’s just new, and with them to help you every step of the way, you realise it’s totally possible to do everything that needs to be done. And so, you are free to take the first step towards changing your life without having to worry about a million things at once. Although you can’t put all responsibility on the staff, you can always know that they are behind you to give you any support you may need.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
It’s awesome. You’re gonna have so much fun, honestly. I went in being all like, “ooooh I wanna teach English, I’m passionate about teaching so I’m going to get certified and follow protocol”. Fine. You should do that. That’s great. It could help you in the future. But you’ll come out with so much more than that. Not only did I leave my program with a handful of new friends, I also learned so much within the course, beyond grammar, and lesson planning, and resume organization. I learned about perspectives, and different people, and how to relax, and that everything is relative. I learned to fake it til I make it which, yes, is both important and legitimate. I learned that teachers are regular people too, just like students. Let me explain that one. I remember being in high school and seeing my language teachers for example, and these people who were not native
to the language at hand. And I used to think, wow, they’ve really got it all under control, they speak the language perfectly, they know exactly how to control the class, etc. Being up there in front of a class, I realised all the ways a teacher can mess up, and all the ways it doesn’t matter. Because my students will probably be sitting there thinking the same thing I used to think in high school. They don’t know what the deal is, they know what you tell them. It’s okay to mess up sometimes, it’s okay to be nervous, and it’s okay to be human. The best way to get through a class is to chill out and have fun with it. Think of it like a conversation or a collaboration between you and your students. You’ll learn from them the same way they learn from you.
That stuff aside, you should also know that your mentor and the staff will be with you every step of the way so you really don’t have to worry. Just get your work done, relax, have fun with it but still be productive, do it the way you think it should be done, give your classes and your work a personal touch. You’ll be fine, really. More than fine. You’ll have a ton of fun, and you’ll wish it didn’t have to end so quickly. That being said, stay in touch with your fellow classmates! You’re all here doing the same thing more or less. You’re (mostly) all in a new country, trying to get this certification and find a job. It is NOT a competition. Bounce ideas off of each other, share games and les- son plans, help each other when you feel stuck. Teaching and learning are very cooperative activities. Get and give ideas from and to your classmates and students, if you catch my drift.

TE Madrid

I spent a long time searching through different websites and directories looking for the right course for me. I began looking for courses months before I was planning to leave for Spain. In the end, some of the main reasons I chose TEmadrid over the other course in Spain was because of the location and the value of the course at TEmadrid. Once I saw that the academy was in the heart of the city I knew my experience there would be fantastic, especially since I really enjoy big cities. Also the price was much lower than the other courses I found while also still providing the same level of TEFL accreditation.

Without the staff’s help I don’t think my transition would have gone as smoothly as it did. I was given support on a variety of things like airport pickup, phone service, bank accounts, activities. But I would say the thing that I appreciate the most was the help I received to find accomodation in Madrid. Madrid is a big city and it can be easy to get lost or to pick an area that isn’t really suited to you. I ended up finding a great apartment in the center of the center thanks to the staff’s help and I’m really glad I did. Originally, I was planning on living a little further out of the city but I was recommended to stay closer to the center. I have heard from other who stayed out of the city about the problems they’ve had with transportation and how boring it can be and I have to say I am really grateful for the advice I was given by the staff

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
One of my favorite things to do during my free time abroad was to explore the city and look for new places. Madrid is a huge city and has a lot of variety. You can go from massive parks with monuments everywhere to old districts full of 19th century buildings then walk into a modern neighbourhood with brand new buildings. I still don’t think I got to see everything Madrid has to offer. Another thing I really enjoyed doing was visiting all of the museums. Madrid has dozens of museums about history, art, and science. One of my favorite ones to visit is the Prado museum which is the second largest art museum in the world behind the Louvre.

Amazing TEFL Course in Spain

I was teaching in the USA, but I wasn’t fully happy, and I didn’t know where i wanted to go, or what I wanted to do, so I decided to take a year and move to Spain to figure it out. I was ready for a change outside of my daily life. I wanted to branch out of my comfort zone and explore new sides of myself, and the world to really figure out who I wanted to be, where I wanted to go, and what I have to do to get there.
The staff here have been amazing. They set up a shuttle to pick me up from the airport to take me to my apartment, they helped me find my apartment by giving me websites to look at and areas to look into. The staff also got me a Spanish sim card for my phone, as well as helping me set up my bank account in Spain. The staff also helped me set up my Padron meetings for work, as well as my NEI meeting for residency. They were extremely helpful every step of the way.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
With any program, I think it is important for future participants to know that this isn’t just a slack off program. It will be a decent amount of work, but it will be so much fun and you will love it. Planning lessons takes time, completing your assignments takes time, but in the end it is all worth it. If you want to slack off and not do anything, choose a different program. But if you want a program that will challenge you to live outside of your comfort zone and grow as a person and a teacher, this program is for you.

REAL teaching experience with REAL students from day one

The one month TEFL Madrid course was a great experience that opened many doors for me here in Madrid. I moved to Madrid after finishing my degree in the United States, and TEFL Madrid provided invaluable skills and training that I needed to hit the ground running and thrive in this city as I settled in.
The courses were really fun and informative, but most importantly they provided REAL teaching experience with REAL students from day one. I can't overstate how helpful this was in building confidence in my abilities and developing my skills as a teacher.
Highlight the job placement service. No other school can guarantee a job, they do, because they own English Academies in Madrid.
This immersive experience paired with the supportive and constructive feedback from the teacher trainers, Jordan and Maria, fully prepared me to go out into the world and teach people to speak English.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Whether you are planning on coming to Madrid to teach for a season or you plan on staying here for the long run, I would absolutely recommend this course. I had so much fun doing it and I met some great people along the way.

Not like any other place

I have just ended my full time TEFL experience with TEFL Madrid and I've been delighted with the results. I enjoyed the teaching practice the most, because you have the opportunity to see what it's like to teach real (Spanish or international) students. Like they say, the more you teach, the more you learn! The grammar revision always comes in handy because it gives you the proper awareness on how the English language actually works (and, if you're a grammar freak like myself, you'll definitely enjoy the grammar revision part). And last but not least, I loved the feeling that I could always count on the staff's availability for answers to any question I might have had.

TEFL certified in Spain

This course and everyone in it made this one of the best decisions I've ever made. I didn't really know what to expect going into it, but I knew that I'd be in good company after meeting Jordan and Andreea, so I felt more secure about investing at TEFL Madrid. Everyone there is so knowledgeable about so much which also comforted me as an expat trying to figure everything out. The course has taught me so much, from different teaching skills to incredible resources and ideas. Having so much practice time teaching is crucial and here at TE Madrid you definitely get that. The feedback you receive after each session further improves your insight in regard to your strengths and weaknesses and the teachers are very helpful in helping address these. I feel extremely supported and prepared moving forward. It's a challenging and time- consuming course, so I couldn't be happier I got to take it with the kindest and most enjoyable people possible :) Thank you to everyone who made this experience so rewarding and fun, I will always be so grateful.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?

TEFL course for all ages

I arrived here not knowing anyone, being 59 years old was a bit intimidating but it soon felt like home. TEFL Madrid was different from what I expected. I’ve had the greatest experience ever and made the best friends a person could have. All the teachers are AMAZING! They really care and are here to help you succeed.
The school is in a nice location, down town in Madrid. Good team both, teachers and administration. Helpful + full energy. A lot of fun. Regarding the classes, I was in a small group so everyone got much attention. The teacher was professional and a nice guy. Every day it is possible to participate in activities about culture, food, etc.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Be prepared though...they call it intensive for a reason. Cancel your weekend plans when you´re there!
