About Program

This program links volunteers with farmers and growers to promote cultural and educational experiences based on trust and non-monetary exchanges, helping to build a sustainable global community. Volunteers assist Hosts for 4-6 hrs per day in exchange for their food and accommodation (max 38hrs in 7 days). The Hosts receive extra help and an opportunity to share their knowledge, lifestyle and culture with volunteers

OUR LONG LASTING GREEN FOOTPRINT
Making sure our programs sustainable with a green print. We make sure to place more than 200 volunteers every year. We maintain a consistent level of progress in our programs. There is a cap number of volunteers of every program too to make sure that the program is functional and sustainable.
HAPPINESS ECONOMIC IMPACT
Happiness volunteers programs are funded by the volunteers themselves while we make sure that we can make sure the fees are optimal. Therefore, we are not creating any financial burden on the destination we volunteer at.
ENVIROMENTAL IMPACT
At our accommodations, we take proper measures to effectively use energy and water consumption. Also, we reduce the usage of non-environmental friendly products in cleaning around the accommodation.

Wonderful Team and Program

I was lucky to have mer the founder who managed my experience from A to Z. I really apperiated all the details given to me From the day I register to the day I received my certificate. The founder is very friendly and down to earth person. The program is full of amazing views and great weather. The food 😋 were delicious. Accomodation clean and staff were friendly. The program is flexible so they accepted me resting for a day instead of hiking. Airport pickup was fun as we had to move from Sabiha Airport to Bursa which is like an 1 and 15 mins by bus but then the views were stunning.

A treasured moment is meeting lots of new people from around the world and living together for a week and also at the end getting a certificate. The biggest impression the program had on me was being able to grow as a person by becoming more confident and going out of my comfort zone. Just do it and go outside your comfort zone, you’ll be surprised what you can do when put in the situation and the feeling at the end when you know you’ve helped clean the forest is amazing. Doing out part of saving mother earth is amazing.

The program is so much fun and full of outdoor activities for nature lovers. We cleaned the forests from plastics. The local team is very supportive and kind. The accomodation was great and clean. The highlight for me was the program views! It was stunning. I came during winter thinking that I will not see green but here I am; I saw so many green trees, land and amazing nature. The food is just delicious, deserts are outstanding and cheap. I bought so many souvonirs and gifts as the prices are pretty low.

Why did you choose this program?

I wanted to explore a new city in Turkey other than Istanbul. I am a nature lover, so I wanted to help clean forests. I also like to walk and enjoy being outdoors. I have volunteered before with Happiness Volunteers in Istanbul and enjoyed their warm atmosphere. I also love Turkish culture, food, and traditions.

What did your program provider (or university) assist you with, and what did you have to organize on your own?

Happiness Volunteers assisted me every single step of the way. From inquiry until I was back with my certificate. They assisted me with airport pickup and drop off, accommodation, two daily meals, where and what to do during free time, the volunteering program, and reflecting on my emotions of homesick feelings.

What is one piece of advice you'd give to someone going on your program?

Listen to all instructions given by the local coordinator and keep it real. Bring your comfortable shoes as you will be walking a lot. Bring your own hiking tools. Do not consider buying stuff from touristic places, as they are usually 3 times the normal price. Read carefully the list of do's and don't mention in the manual.

What does an average day/week look like as a participant of this program?

I wake up at 7. I usually work out in my room. Breakfast is ready. I ate at 9. We start moving at 10 towards our volunteering area by bus. We start trekking and looking for plastics until 3. We eat a branch out there in the forest. We move back to the city bus, and around 5, I am out and about. Exploring the city with the local coordinator.

Going into your experience abroad, what was your biggest fear, and how did you overcome it? How did your views on the issue change?

I already love my mindset, so there is no much to be changed. However, the usage of plastic is one of the major things that this trip helped reduce. I also learned a lot about Turkish culture and language thanks to the coordinator, who taught me several words and phrases. I connected with nature a lot which is something that I loved doing in this program.
