About Program

An exotically beautiful country, Cambodia is rising from the ashes of the Killing Fields of the 1970s to become reborn as a premier tourist destination with a steadily growing economy. When you embark upon Bright Light Volunteers’ Cambodia Reborn program, you will become a vital participant in Cambodia’s rebirth.

Emerging from a time when access to all intellectual materials was banned, you will meet a people who are hungry for education. They want to learn and they need you to help teach them. With the growth of the tourist industry there is a great need for Cambodians who speak English. The ability to speak a foreign language popular with tourists gives the Cambodian people a way out of poverty, enabling them to rebuild their lives, their country, and their future. Program service projects include: English language instruction with a community of monks in a pagoda that we partner with, house building, and early childhood education initiatives.

This program is currently not being promoted on Go Overseas by its provider. Check with Bright Light Volunteers for the most up-to-date information regarding the status of this program.

Consider your impact: Volunteering abroad can be a rewarding experience for both volunteers and local communities, and at Go Overseas, we believe all volunteers should have the resources to make informed decisions about the type of volunteer project they want to partake in. However, despite best intentions, some organizations offering placements in orphanages may unknowingly place children in danger. You can read about the potential dangers of orphanage volunteering here.
