Best experience ever

I was in Monteria with Yanilis and both host families were excellent. They took care of my every need, including safety, room and board, activities and school placements. Both had an interest in learning English as well as helping me learn Spanish. Went to different schools once or twice a week to share me! They went out of their way to make sure I knew where I was going and what I was doing, which was assisting in English classes and conversation outside of classes with teachers and students. Some weekends were going to the beach, city tours, malls, eating out, seeing the rest of the country, and working within the school activities.

I would highly recommend this program as a "don't miss" opportunity of a life time.

Am going again next year to a different city with this program.

Volunteer Teaching

I did not go to Colombia for the money, I went for the experience of working in a different culture and to offer pedagogy to fellow teachers. I worked in Florencia, where the Colombian teachers are extremely dedicated and thirsty for ideas to implement in their classes. The high school teachers have a good command of English so they are looking for different methodologies for their classrooms. The elementary school teachers are doing their best to teach in English, without having received second language teaching methodology so they need a different kind of support. The bilingual teachers are doing an amazing job in low socio-economic schools with few resources. Sueños and Colombia met my expectations and left me wanting to return.
