About Program

Volunteers can work with children of all ages, from the age of 2 rights up to the age of 16. You will work as a teaching assistant, however if you feel confident enough to take the lead then you can take your own classes. If you have a preference of age group then please outline this in your online application form. OGVO volunteers are placed at a local school. Our team will introduce you to the school curriculum and teaching techniques, so you can effectively plan for lessons. The carrying out of Free Compulsory Universal Basic Education (FCUBE), as between 1996-2005 in Ghana has allowed many poorer families to send their children to school. Education is a priority for the Ghanaian government. Nevertheless, severe classroom overcrowding, lack of educational materials and an overall weak infrastructure are common problems that the Ghanaian educational system faces. You’ll find the children extremely excited to see you and eager to learn.

Consider your impact: Volunteering abroad can be a rewarding experience for both volunteers and local communities, and at Go Overseas, we believe all volunteers should have the resources to make informed decisions about the type of volunteer project they want to partake in. However, despite best intentions, some organizations offering placements in orphanages may unknowingly place children in danger. You can read about the potential dangers of orphanage volunteering here.
