About Program

Teaching: The teaching program at Awisi Foundation offers volunteers the opportunity to influence the lives of the children in the local community of Odumase-Krobo in Ghana. Awisi Foundation has partnered with local schools in order to offer a program which allows volunteers to work within the school, engaging the students and imparting their own knowledge on the youth of today.

-Medical: The medical placement will be based at Atua Government Hospital in Krobo-Odumase, Ghana. The hospital helps those affected by a number of other issues such malaria, chest infections (such as pneumonia and bronchitis), hyper-tension and diabetes. Volunteers undertaking the medical placement will have the opportunity to choose a particular area based upon their interest in which to observe, or rotate through a number of departments.

The volunteers will also be able to assist at the orphanage home in a general capacity which among other tasks, would include mentoring.

Consider your impact: Volunteering abroad can be a rewarding experience for both volunteers and local communities, and at Go Overseas, we believe all volunteers should have the resources to make informed decisions about the type of volunteer project they want to partake in. However, despite best intentions, some organizations offering placements in orphanages may unknowingly place children in danger. You can read about the potential dangers of orphanage volunteering here.
