About Program
Volunteers play an integral role in HIAS’ efforts to help refugees in the U.S. and abroad.
In the last two years, nearly a million refugees have traveled through Greece from Syria, Iraq and other conflict zones. 60,000 remain in Greece, seeking protection, asylum and family reunification.
HIAS Greece’s program on Lesvos provides holistic legal services, including community training and legal representation, focusing on the most vulnerable refugees. After on-site training, pro bono lawyers and legal fellows interview clients, conduct legal research and prepare legal submissions. This program is best suited for volunteers willing to make a commitment for at least a few months.
