Are you a purist at heart? Do you like to experience things in their natural form? As far as Latin American culture is concerned, Guatemala is the real deal -- it just doesn't get any more authentic. Over 24 different indigenous groups make up the Central American country, and the language of each has withstood the test of time. As a result, Guatemala is said to be the destination of choice for those that have a desire to learn Spanish.
At our Spanish language school in Quetzaltenango (Xela), student volunteers have the opportunity to to take advantage of the FREE Spanish lessons that are offered. There they can learn how to roll those R's with the best of them.
Volunteer 2-12 weeks
Choose to work with one of the following: women's human rights, medical clinic, orphanage/daycare, special needs children, street/at-risk children, or teaching in a local school
Consider your impact: Volunteering abroad can be a rewarding experience for both volunteers and local communities, and at Go Overseas, we believe all volunteers should have the resources to make informed decisions about the type of volunteer project they want to partake in. However, despite best intentions, some organizations offering placements in orphanages may unknowingly place children in danger.
