About Program

Looking for a volunteering teaching experience with a difference? Head to Laos and teach monks and local lay students English in a beautiful rural community!

Whether you are a experienced teacher or a complete beginner, you will be supported throughout the experience. You will team teach, have access to a resources room and you will receive training sessions to help you get the most out of your experience. You will also get to teach at a community English center - a real highlight and a great opportunity to meet a variety of locals!

Luang Prabang is a UNESCO Heritage city and a stunning place to call home. As a tourist destination, English is incredibly important to locals looking to widen their employment options.

You will live at a local guest house with other volunteers. With western bathrooms and comfortable communal areas, it is a great base to explore the city. Delicious meals will be cooked for you at the house.

Impact 🌎

Oyster Worldwide is passionate about the importance of responsible travel. We want our projects to fit in with the local way of life, without having a negative impact on the environment, culture or economy. This means that we will only send participants to places where there is a real need and where we have been asked to work. Once there, they should fit in with the community, respecting their way of life and supporting, rather than taking, local jobs.

Program Highlights

  • Live in a stunning UNESCO Heritage city.
  • Gain a unique insight into life as a monk.
  • Explore a beautiful part of Laos during your free time.
  • Experience life as a teacher abroad, working alongside a like-minded team.
  • Eat authentic, delicious home-cooked food.

Program Impact

Young novice monks are looked after by monasteries in Luang Prabang until they are 18. Volunteers can make a huge difference to their lives by helping to teach them English, which will widen their career options should they choose to leave the monasteries. Many monasteries are heavily under resourced and that is where this project can help provide further classes.
