About Program

Volunteer with elephants that have been rescued from the gruelling logging industry, helping to give them a life as close to the wild as possible. Work alongside these gentle giants, providing them with care, enrichments and a happy home.

The centre is based next to a huge lake, surrounded by rainforest and mountains. 7 elephants are currently in permanent residence at the centre, although many others pass through for hospital treatment or to give birth in the elephant nursery.

Over your first 3 days you will partake in a comprehensive introduction to life at the centre. This includes meeting the amazing elephants, learning about the hospital and nursery and getting to grips with monitoring. A particular highlight is seeing the elephants bathe and enjoying their freedom.

Once your induction is complete, volunteer tasks may include creating enrichments, basic maintenance, monitoring and assisting the biologists.

Impact

Sustainability

Oyster Worldwide is passionate about the importance of responsible travel. We want our projects to fit in with the local way of life, without having a negative impact on the environment, culture or economy. This means that we will only send participants to places where there is a real need and where we have been asked to work. Once there, they should fit in with the community, respecting their way of life and supporting, rather than taking, local jobs.

Questions & Answers

Hi Gina, not at all! We have just had a couple of people in their mid / late 70s join this project, and they absolutely loved it. We would suggest a room upgrade as the beds are bunk beds, but we can arrange a private room with a double or twin beds which might be more comfortable for you.
