Volunteer with endangered wildlife at LCTW
- Laos
About Program
The Lao Conservation Trust for Wildlife is the first wildlife rescue, conservation, and education center in Lao PDR. Lao PDR is a hotspot for the illegal wildlife trade in Southeast Asia. Due to the ongoing illegal wildlife trade, volunteers at LCTW make immediate and direct impacts to the wildlife here in Laos.
We currently care for a huge variety of species numbering over 200 animals including gibbons, crocodiles, bears, leopard cats, deer, turtles binturongs, and many others. Many of these have a high conservation value.
Volunteers work in supervised teams to provide daily care for our wildlife, and assist with various enrichment projects to ensure the mental health and wellbeing of the resident animals at our center. Larger projects such as building new enclosures for animals, renovating old enclosures, and general maintenance around the center are also ongoing.

Program Impact
In July 2024 we moved our entire site and all of our animals to a brand new site, based on the edge of the Phou Khao Khouay National Park. We only had 18 months to fine, secure, plan, build and move into this new site, which didn't even have roads, electricity or plumbing beforehand! This move means we have been able to design enclosures to the highest standard for the animals in our care, meaning we now have world class enclosures, to prepare our animals for release to the wild! The hurried nature of the move however, means the work never stops, and work is constantly underway to continue building new enclosures, and improve the existing ones to the highest standards. Volunteers are now immersed in nature during their stay with us, and have the unique opportunity to join us on releasing of animals into the national park wherever possible. You can be sure that your visit will make a lasting impact on the future of our center, and of wildlife in Laos - your help is needed now more than ever!
