About Program

Education is at the heart of SAE LAO and is what we do best. Our English classes have been the most important part of the project for the community and volunteers since the project opened in 2008.

We use the facilities of three local schools when the "standard school day" has finished. And teach our students for two hours - between 5 pm and 7 pm. Volunteers stay in our dormitory - or our guesthouse for a small daily fee - and are involved with daily tasks and activities that contribute to a happy daily life and the maintenance of the project site and facilities. We have a tuk-tuk to get to schools, the market, and Friday night rides into Vang Vieng - where most volunteers like to go at the weekend! Our project is located 50 meters from Blue Lagoon 1. There are several viewpoints within walking distance. We host a quiz night and have movie nights! You will be part of a dedicated and committed team - from all nations.

Sae Lao Project - amazing

Sae Lao’s sense of community is wonderful. As an international volunteer, Sae Lao’s local staff members welcomed me, and the other volunteers, as family, giving it the sense of a home away from home. There is a great balance of teaching and free time, but you’ll likely find yourself longing for more time in the classroom since the students are so lovely and genuinely eager to learn. Sae Lao also provides translators which work alongside volunteers in the classroom. This is an essential component of teaching, since the students are fluent in English, and I think this makes Sae Lao stand out as it demonstrates the project’s attentiveness to supporting volunteers. Overall I highly recommend this experience!

Pros
  • Sense of community
