Impacta México (09/2024 - 12/2024)

Impacta México is a wonderful organization built on the generosity, kindness, and passion of wonderful people. Impacta México partnered me with a high school called (Preperatoria Interamericana) in Morelia and I volunteered as an English teacher assistant. The staff were so kind to me and the students were so funny and amazing. The students had such an incredible bond with one another and their teachers and it was unforgettable to be apart of that tight knit community. The best thing Impacta México has going for it is the people who are apart of it. The locals who work with Impacta are so generous and will happily share their culture, music, food, and time with you. I'm a very shy person but they all were so nice to me and I'm grateful for everyone who made my experience so awesome. Morelia is a beautiful city and felt very safe. You also will meet people from all over the world and everyone brings their own unique culture to bear and unlocks a sense of camaraderie that you can't find anywhere else. I will always cherish my time with in Morelia and I cannot recommend Impacta México enough.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
I would stay longer.
Pros
  • The people
  • The activities and experiences prepared by Impacta Mexico are phenomenal.
  • Morelia is a truly beautiful city and its impossible to run out things to see/do.
Cons
  • The food was too delicious

Impacta is Family

The opportunities and support with Impacta is nothing like I have ever seen in the “voluntourism” realm. Between the leadership, organization of events and schedules, kindness of the people, depth of cultural experience, and everything in between, trust me you are going to want to be here for the social development that is Impacta. !! I even got to improve upon my Spanish and got so much support in that area. At the end of the day Impacta has a huge network all over the world and I view everyone as a big family,

What was your funniest moment?
While I was with Impacta I was also improving on my Spanish and one time there are a misunderstanding that ended with me receiving a very strange gift!
Pros
  • The people of Morelia
  • The food
  • The weather
Cons
  • If you’ve never lived in a group house, could be challenging

An incredible experiece with Impacta México.

I had the opportunity to stay in an Impacta program and I don’t have words to describe the experience. The team, the people, the organization — it was amazing.

Definitely, I recommend this organization. I hope to come back soon for another volunteering program with the same team.

During my time there, I learned so much, not only about teaching but also about myself and the world around me. The support I received made me feel at home, and the cultural exchange was truly enriching. Every moment felt meaningful, and the connections I made will stay with me forever.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Go with an open mind and a willing heart.
Every community has its own rhythm, its own history, and its own way of seeing the world. Beyond what you can teach or contribute, you will also learn a lot. Be prepared to step out of your comfort zone, adapt, connect, and be transformed by the people, the culture, and the experience.
Pros
  • Impacto positivo en proyectos sociales.
  • Cultural and personal learning.
  • Real connection with local communities.
Cons
  • Culture shock but it's part of the experience
  • Personal expenses are your responsibility.

The Best

10/10 experience. The people are so kind and wonderful and Morelia is a beautiful place. The city is very easy to navigate and very safe. I absolutely loved my time in Morelia with Impacta Mexico. I was an English teacher assistant and the experience was amazing and the students and staff were so hospitable and friendly. I really liked that there are always things to do, the people at Impacta México guided me a lot with everything, I felt at home. I had a lot of fun eating typical food from the region and going on a trip to Pátzcuaro

What was the most surprising thing you saw or did?
The best thing I saw was the dances they do in the plaza in the center of Morelia, it was very pretty and the food was delicious. I will definitely return to Morelia and with Impacta México since I had a lot of fun with them.

An Unforgettable Cultural Experience in Mexico

I spent two months as an English Assistant Teacher at a school near Morelia, and it truly became a memorable part of my life. Even though there were a few hiccups at the start, Daniel was super helpful, and the whole experience turned out to be even better than I had imagined. It was hands down the best experience I could’ve had as a teacher!

This program is a fantastic choice for anyone looking for a short but immersive dive into Mexican culture. Morelia is a beautiful, but not so turistic city, so it is perfect to really dive in the real and local experience. It’s perfect for those ready to adapt and experience the magic of Mexico in all its form!

What was your funniest moment?
The events at the school in occasion of cultural/national festivities were amazing! The students organized lots of activities, traditional games accompanied by local music and moments of reflection. In these occasions I even rode a horse and assisted to “fake-marriages”!
