About Program

This programme focuses on community development in the mountain villages of Nepal. This programme gives you unique access to live in a small community helping develop education, infrastructure & agriculture.

Nepal has some of the most iconic landscapes on earth and is home to the highest mountain range in the world, with 10 peaks reaching more that 5 miles in height! This beautiful country is located in the Himalayas, and borders on China in the north and India in the west, east and south. Home to nearly 30 million citizens, sadly 20% of these are living in poverty which rates Nepal as the 5th poorest country in Asia.

Due to over 80% of the population living in rural mountain areas, education and learning resources are harder to come by. Therefore, only 60% percent of adults in Nepal are literate and even fewer 49% percent for women.

Program Highlights

  • English development: A lot of teachers at the schools we work with have little to no English. To add to this, there is a real lack of facilities and equipment, especially in the rural mountain villages.
  • IT support: Although some school we operate in have IT labs, unfortunately, the teachers have had no training on how to use computers or teach IT lessons. Join the team and help educate the teachers and students how to use computers.
  • School renovation: There is a seriously lack of facilities at the schools we operate at. Work alongside local technicians to help build facilities and improve the schools.
  • Agricultural project: We aim to build plastic houses with the support of SAHAS naturalist team. Volunteers can take part in the construction of plastic houses and engage in farming activities.
  • Sports development: The Sports development aims to introduce new sports to local schools in the community. Selected sports equipment will be provided to the schools.

Program Impact

Working closely with our charitable partners, SAHAS, we aim to advance education, infrastructure & agriculture. Our local research team carefully identify and build relations with outreach communities that are seeking international support. We continuously monitor and review our initiatives to reach long-term goals set out by our partnered communities.

The best trip ever with amazing people and very rewarding projects!

My 6-week journey with Travelteer on their Community Development Volunteering Programme in Nepal was an unforgettable experience that left a lasting impact on both the local communities and my heart.

Helping to build greenhouses with irrigation systems was so rewarding and we got to see the power of sustainable development, and the hard work we put into it was truly worthwhile.

One of the highlights of the trip was transforming classrooms into vibrant and colourful learning spaces for the children. The joy on their faces when they saw their newly decorated classrooms was priceless. Creating a better learning environment for them was a small gesture with a big impact.

Travelteer's dedication to community empowerment was evident throughout the trip. They provided us with meaningful opportunities to contribute and make a positive change.

Pros
  • rewarding programme
  • make friends for life
  • lots of support from the staff in nepal
Cons
  • felt nervous sometimes about where we stayed but still was always in a group which was nice
  • i wasnt a fan of the food

Travelteer Nepal Community development

I went as a part of my university's Turing program mostly just looking for a unique experience to have over my second year of university summer, even though I spent very little of my own money on the holiday I was still blown away by my experience. Nepal was quite intense for the first few days however i pushed through the initial shock with the help of the staff member Ed (who was fantastic) and ended up loving Nepal so much I'm already planning on returning to Nepal next summer with travelteer as an end of graduation gift.

Pros
  • As an anxious person the staff were great at making me feel at home and involved in the group
  • The tour was absolutely insane especially Chitwan
  • Pokhara was absolutely was beautiful and full of stuff to do
Cons
  • Don't be fooled by the snow capped mountains Nepal is hot!!!
