Volunteer Opportunities Nepal with ViN

For two weeks, I took part in a volunteering placement with VIN as part of the Raising Peace Campaign project. I had the opportunity to get to know rural communities near Kathmandu; I met women and spoke to them about domestic violence and their rights. It was a wonderful, immersive and fulfilling experience. VIN supported me right from the start, even before I set off, by providing me with all the necessary information and assistance. Even during my time as a volunteer, they were always attentive, approachable and ready to help. It was truly wonderful to volunteer with VIN, an organisation that is deeply committed and active on the ground; I felt part of a great project and a shared vision.

I spent around three months in Okhaldhunga with Volunteers Initiative Nepal (ViN) as an ESC volunteer, mainly working with children in different schools. My work included English and life-skills sessions, handwriting and grammar activities, environmental awareness, children’s clubs, and organising a summer camp and other school activities.

During my stay, I also had the opportunity to work with volunteers from different countries. Working together, planning sessions, travelling between schools, and adapting to different situations was a big part of the experience. It wasn’t always easy, especially when there were large groups of students or limited resources, but that made the experience more realistic and helped me understand what community-based work actually looks like.

Living in Okhaldhunga for three months also allowed me to experience a side of Nepal that I probably wouldn’t have experienced otherwise. I got to know the children, teachers, local community, and the people I was working with on a much more personal level.

I came with the intention of contributing through my work, but I also learned a lot about communication, teamwork, patience, and adapting to new environments. I’m grateful for the people I met and the experiences I had during these three months, and I think ViN is a good place for someone who genuinely wants to experience community work and learn along the way. :)

My two-month placement as a national volunteer on Child Protection Program with VIN in Okhaldhunga was an incredible experience. Working with ECD children, leading teachers’ workshops, and running parenting sessions showed me the true power of ethical and community-focused work. This experience allowed me to sharpen my communication, group facilitation, problem solving and interpersonal skills in real-world field settings. VIN provides reliable ground support, ensuring volunteers are well-guided throughout their field activities. Combined with the incredible warmth of the local community, this program offers a safe, trustworthy, and deeply meaningful path for personal and professional growth.

I had a wonderful experience volunteering with VIN in Nepal. The Environmental Stewardship project gave us the opportunity to work with children in local schools, raising awareness about pollution, plastic and waste management, while also discovering a more authentic side of Nepal. The local team was incredibly welcoming, supportive and well organised, and living with a host family made the cultural experience even richer. I would definitely recommend VIN to anyone looking for a meaningful, well-organised and rewarding volunteering experience.

We helped empower children education by designing interactive and engaging activities. Through these activities, the school children learnt English usage and harbored intercultural abilities. We also painted two classrooms, and gave a brighter learning environment for all of them. Though we only stayed for 5 days, I think such an experience is enough for them to remember us their whole lives! ViN does great work, and it is the action of volunteers that help them improve living conditions within Nepal. With love from Hong Kong!

I’d always loved to visit Nepal and so I decided that the best way to visit a country is trough volunteering, that’s why I joined VIN. I teached and had fun with children and painted the classrooms, in a school in Jitphurgedi near Katmandu. The best part was without any doubt the host family (Sudip’s family) soo kind, helpful, enjoyable, funny and sharing. I learned about the colture and dishes of Nepal and how kids here are energetic and funny. I’d recommend this experience to everyone that wants to truly enjoy and live Nepal in all it’s different aspects.

Throughout our entire volunteer journey in Nepal, the non-profit organization provided consistent, thoughtful, and comprehensive support that allowed our service project to run smoothly and meaningfully. From the very beginning of our camp experience until the final day of our community service work, the team behind the organization stood beside us every step of the way, ensuring that we were fully prepared, comfortable, and capable of completing our volunteer responsibilities with confidence and care.

One of the most valuable forms of support the organization offered was thorough and detailed guidance for all our volunteer sessions. Before we began school renovations, wall-painting projects, and English teaching activities, the staff provided us with essential background information about the local community, the students’ learning conditions, and the specific needs of the rural school in Jitpurphedi. They clearly explained our daily work schedules, clarified our service objectives, and shared practical tips to help us communicate better with local children and community residents. This professional preparation equipped us with all the necessary knowledge and skills to carry out our tasks effectively, preventing confusion or miscommunication during our community

It has been a rewarding and unique journey teaching in one of the schools in the Jitpurphedi area. Despite only 45 minutes by car from Kathmandu, the school environment was in need of improvement, and help from volunteers are greatly appreciated. Engaging with students and teaching them new things are both meaningful and fun.

One of the most memorable moments are when students farewell us during the last day. Many familiar faces all lined up and waved hands at us, saying the last goodbye for the programme. It was a truly mesmerising and inspiring experience, showing how our teaching lives in their memories.
