About Program

Visit one of the world’s most beautiful cities and share your passion for children and love of teaching on this Early Childhood Development Project. As a volunteer, you will work in Cape Town’s underprivileged townships, educating and caring for vulnerable children in foster care homes and pre-schools. By supporting this initiative, you are making a positive, long-term impact on children who otherwise would not get the chance to access a quality and inclusive education.

Experience the real, un-cut Cape Town as a responsible traveler and volunteer daily in the township communities surrounding the city. Give children the opportunity to access one-to-one educational opportunities that would otherwise not exist in severely over-crowded and under-funded facilities.

This program is currently not being promoted on Go Overseas by its provider. Check with African Impact for the most up-to-date information regarding the status of this program.

Consider your impact: Volunteering abroad can be a rewarding experience for both volunteers and local communities, and at Go Overseas, we believe all volunteers should have the resources to make informed decisions about the type of volunteer project they want to partake in. However, despite best intentions, some organizations offering placements in orphanages may unknowingly place children in danger. You can read about the potential dangers of orphanage volunteering here. Learn more about how African Impact is promoting ethical volunteering.

Diversity & Inclusion 💙

African Impact strictly adheres to a non-discrimination policy that prohibits any form of bias or discrimination based on race, color or ethnicity within our projects. We have a code of conduct which all volunteers are required to follow, and we welcome all volunteers who are interested in creating a lasting impact in Africa.
African Impact prides itself on being an inclusive organization, and we welcome all members of the LGBTQIA+ community to join our projects. We have a strict non-discrimination policy, and all volunteers and staff are required to follow a code of conduct that ensures all participants are treated with respect.

Impact 🌎

Ensuring that our projects are making a viable impact in local communities and contribute sustainably to conservation is our priority. We believe that volunteering is very much a two-way thing which brings value to both the local people and wildlife and the volunteers themselves, who benefit from an authentic cultural exchange and knowledge transfer about a new country, its environment and threats facing its animals.
Responsible travel is about travellers making informed and responsible choices, and planning trips which have a positive impact on the country they’re visiting. Through careful planning, we seek to have a positive and sustainable impact on the social, cultural and physical environment at each of our project bases.

Our Child Protection Policy has been vetted and approved by Keeping Children Safe (KCS), who represent a commitment by organizations worldwide to safeguard all children from exploitation, abuse and violations of their human rights.

Program Impact

PRE-SCHOOL TEACHING
We collaborate with pre-schools caring for children between the ages of 6 months and 7 years. These schools offer children from disadvantaged backgrounds an invaluable head start to their education and future, with a specific emphasis on helping them to prepare for their next step to primary school.

FOSTER CARE HOME SUPPORT
We provide support to the foster care home where our volunteer work was established to care for abandoned and orphaned children in Khayelitsha and the surrounding areas.

LIFE-SKILLS PROGRAM
Volunteers spend a couple of afternoons at a foster care center for children from various challenging backgrounds. The aim of the organization is to one day return the children to their biological families. Otherwise, help them lead happy successful lives by teaching them develop life skills that will enhance and improve their chances of completing their education.

EDUCATION AND ENRICHMENT
Volunteers help to plan and implement fun and educational games for an after-school care program set up to provide a safe space for children in the vulnerable hours after school finishes. These always have an emphasis on developing important life skills, such as teamwork and leadership.
