About Program

FreeMe KZN wildlife rehabilitation centre was established in 2005 and is a registered Non Profit Organization governed by an independent board of voluntary directors. The rehab and release of wildlife species that have been injured by snares or other forms of traps, wounded by hunter’s guns or orphaned at a young age is not an easy task. It requires dedicated staff and volunteers that are willing to get their hands dirty and can face sometimes harrowing sights involving badly injured animals. In order to service the surrounding urban and farming communities the centre handles a wide variety of species. All patients are released after 3 months and no animals are kept in captivity.

The FreeMe volunteer program is a hands on program designed with the vet nurse or animal technician in mind or those considering this as a career. During the program volunteers will be exposed to all aspects of wildlife rehab at FreeMe as well as other partner centres in the region.
