About Program

As a childcare volunteer, you will assist in daycares and kindergartens that are often underfunded, under-resourced, and in need of extra help.

Volunteers provide valuable support by:
-Assisting with teaching
-Caring for children
-Playing games and arranging activities
-Helping with feeding and mealtimes
-Interacting and engaging with children
-Other general duties

You’re welcome to bring along books, pencils, basic first aid supplies, and musical instruments to help entertain the children and assist with activities. These supplies can generally be purchased in Tanzania, which also helps to support the local economy.

Consider your impact: Volunteering abroad can be a rewarding experience for both volunteers and local communities, and at Go Overseas, we believe all volunteers should have the resources to make informed decisions about the type of volunteer project they want to partake in. However, despite best intentions, some organizations offering placements in orphanages may unknowingly place children in danger. You can read about the potential dangers of orphanage volunteering here.

Program Highlights

  • Being immersed by local community and culture while you're giving away to the community
  • Let's create a collaborative effort to make an impact for low income families in Tanzania

Program Impact

Volunteers will be supervised by our local staff coordinators from our organization who will pick you up upon arrival, take you around, introduce you to the school and staff, and guide you during your stay.
It is important that volunteers at this project understand the following;

Tanzania is a peaceful country but is old-fashioned by Western standards. Be enthusiastic and independent and willing to accept that things can be challenging at times.
Show respect towards the people and culture of the local community. The people of Tanzania are some kind religious, so prepare yourself accordingly.
At all times, follow rules regarding clothing and appearance. Tanzania is the tropical country and therefore hot. It is not as strict as the Middle East, so you can dress coolly but modestly, with limbs, knees, and shoulders covered if possible.
Time is a concept that is different in Africa! Volunteers must accept that things don’t move at the rushed pace and in the highly organised way that Westerners are used to. Be patient and learn to appreciate ‘African time’.
