About Program

Thailand is home to Saffron clad monks, bustling local markets, shimmering golden temples and some of the most beautiful landscapes on earth. Spend your time visiting the hill tribes near Chiang Mai where remnants of the oldest monarchy in the world are on display.

On this volunteer vacation, you will discover Thailand through its people. You will lend a hand in a village school and visit progressive NGOs that focus on such issues as women's economic empowerment and hill tribe cultural preservation. In Thailand, speaking English is essential to getting a good job, yet the traditional Thai education system emphasizes rote learning. Your goal will be to make learning English fun for the students in the community through educational games, tutoring, conversation and arts & crafts.

When you're not teaching, venture off to Doi Inthaon, Thailand's tallest mountain, visit an elephant sanctuary, and chat with Thailand's monks.

Consider your impact: Volunteering abroad can be a rewarding experience for both volunteers and local communities, and at Go Overseas, we believe all volunteers should have the resources to make informed decisions about the type of volunteer project they want to partake in. However, despite best intentions, some organizations offering placements in orphanages may unknowingly place children in danger. You can read about the potential dangers of orphanage volunteering here.

Travel, learn, and give back

This trip was eye-opening for me. I got to learn so much about the Thai culture, while being completely submerged in it. We got to cook Thai food, go to temples, and my personal favorite, go to the elephant sanctuary. We got to see the great parts of Chaing Mai while also being able to truly help. This for me was a perfect way to travel.
