About Program

Many children in Uganda neither have the time nor the resources to play and just be children. With our playgrounds and Tjeko Method, we strive to provide every child with a safe, creative space to develop. Edutainment volunteers work with us in our play park at the outskirts of Jinja as well as join us in Ugandan schools to raise awareness about the power of play in children's development. Specific tasks include operating the play park like selling tickets, building up play equipment, ensuring the safety of children playing, maintaining the grounds or repairing play items. They are also included in the preparation of new workshops lessons and theatrical performances, as well as the development of new games. To generate income and keep our services almost free, volunteers also support the rental service of our play equipment by delivering items all over Uganda and interacting with our clients.

Great experience

Visiting Uganda is a unique experience. The weather is lovely almost all the time. But that wasn't the main reason for me to go. I also volunteered at Tjeko, it was so much fun. The staff is really amazing, kind and helpful. They work so hard and really appreciate their volunteers.

Luckily I was able to help out in many different ways. One day I went to visit a school with a number of the staff, we loaded a truck with skelters, trampolines and more fun stuff for kids and drove to this school. Only the drive there is amazing. The kids in the area know Tjeko and are wild about it, they smile and wave and love this traveling Tjeko Fun village. On this school nearly 400 kids were waiting for us. We unloaded the truck and assembled the equipment, then the fun started, the kids were so happy. It was so great to be part of this fun.

Also the park itself is used to larger groups of kids. This is an even more exciting experience. The kids love being there and really enjoy their time. Everyone is smiling. This day I managed to small shop on the park. The kids really love buying candy, and they show up in big numbers.

There are many more things to do. Whenever you like to work with tools, there are many opportunities. And it is so much fun to see your creations being used by the kids to have a good time.

I had a great time and would definitely go again.
