The program fees listed above cover accommodation, food*, orientation, transport*, and in-country support staff throughout the duration of your volunteer placement. A small amount is also set aside for future program development. When you consider the costs you might incur at a hotel or eating at restaurants, the costs are minimal. Every penny of your program fee is going directly to the local community project support. Our projects are in most cases solely funded by volunteer fees. For us to be able to continue the amazing work we do, volunteer fees and donations are essential. Ultimately, it is a decision of where you would like your money to go… to a hotel, or to a local family? We know which one we’d choose!

About Program

Recreational services are a key component of childcare and development. The United Nations Convention on the Right of a Child illustrates the right of the child to rest, leisure, play, recreational activities, cultural life and the arts (Article 31). Recreational services infrastructure has drastically collapsed over the past decade in Zimbabwe. Children are left trapped in risky environments for the access of basic recreational services. International volunteers who join us in this program have a rare opportunity to engage with children through innovative indoor and outdoor play sessions. In this program, volunteers will plan indoor and outdoor play activities together with our local team. We make use of traditional games as well as locally available resources to developing play equipment.
International volunteers will work with children aged 5 to 15 years of age and youth between the ages 16 to 25 through both play and educational support.

Consider your impact: Volunteering abroad can be a rewarding experience for both volunteers and local communities, and at Go Overseas, we believe all volunteers should have the resources to make informed decisions about the type of volunteer project they want to partake in. However, despite best intentions, some organizations offering placements in orphanages may unknowingly place children in danger. You can read about the potential dangers of orphanage volunteering here.
