Hi everyone, and welcome to another The Week Overseas post. If you're new here, I'll fill you in. Each week we enjoy spending time reading through the hundreds of fantastic blogs we feature here on GO! Overseas. We read and comment on as many as we can, and keep track of posts we particularly enjoyed. At the end of the week we give a special shout-out to these posts on our blog, and give them a Tweet, Stumble, and Digg. This is all part of our mission to share quality content related to meaningful travel abroad throughout the world wide web.

We're confident the blogs below will be of interest to you if you came to this post looking for quality content.

Social Customs in China - What You Need to Know

China is such a huge and socially diverse country that any attempt to generalize its social customs here would be folly. What might be acceptable in Shanghai might be completely offensive in Xian. Nonetheless, my experiences living abroad in China have led me to observe the following customs which I think any foreigner wishing to teach, study, or volunteer in China should know. I welcome any feedback or additional observations about living in China in the comments below.

Now then, lets make some blatant generalizations:

Spitting. Traditional culture holds that it is unhealthy to swallow phlegm. Be prepared to see people spit and spit often.

Let's face it, this is a big decision! There are a myriad number of programs, providers, and opportunities for you to pick from, but what are the questions you should be asking? What are the selection criteria you should be using?

Here are some things to consider before choosing your study abroad program:

Language of Instruction
Do you prefer to take classes that are taught in a foreign language or would you prefer classes taught in English? Would you like a combination of language courses and electives taught in English?

Live your dream and teach, study, or volunteer in Australia!

This post will be the first in a ongoing series highlighting specific countries to teach, study, or volunteer in. Each post will include an introduction and travel tips to that country, as well as recommendations for specific study, volunteer, and teaching programs. This week we feature the “land down under”: Australia!

The ‘sunburnt country’ is at the top of almost everyone’s travel wish list. There is good reason for this: Australia is simply an amazing place. The people are incredibly friendly, the wildlife exotic, and the coastline one endless sandy beach. After one day in Australia, many people find themselves searching for an excuse to make their stay permanent.
