Best agency

I moved to Beijing in 2024 for 6 months, and it was the best experience ever. I’m thankful for all the help that I’ve received.

I’m still talking with my ex-host family, they are great 🤍 this agency makes all the experience amazing.

It also helps a lot with the reimbursement of the flights, and they also help with the extension of the visa.
Thanks to this program, I met people from a lot of countries, and I also met my best friends there.

I hope you enjoy this program as much as I did.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Don’t be afraid of the language, you’ll always find a way to communicate with the people in China.
Chinese people encourage you to learn the language, even if you can just say 你好 they’ll be proud of you haha
Pros
  • Learning new language
  • It helps with your CV
  • Meet people around the world
Cons
  • Far from your family

Best way to learn about China

I was an au pair from 2016 to 2018, for 1 year and 7 months. I had the opportunity to be part of a Chinese family, learn about the culture and language.

I truly believe that this program is something one has to experience, is eye-opening, it makes you step out of your comfort zone, and you get to see more about one of the greatest cultures in the world.

ICXC was a great company; they helped me a lot, and I have so many good memories with them. I do recommend going with them for this experience.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
I would stay longer, I would be more focused on learning the language
Pros
  • Support system
  • immersion in culture
  • Move friends from all around the world
Cons
  • Limited time for myself
  • A bit of a culture shock (beginning)

Shenzhen 2025

I received an email from an Au Pair agency based in Shenzhen during the 2024 summer holidays, and after several meetings with different families, I found the perfect one and booked my flight for February 2025!

It was only a 3-month program, but I really loved my experience. The staff members of my agency were always helpful, reliable, and patient people, and I’m thankful for all they did for me. The same goes for the other Au Pairs that I met and with whom I discovered more about the city, China, and not feeling alone far away from my country home. My host family was the best. Communication wasn’t always easy, but respect, patience were always there, and it made me safe and comfortable around them. Thanks to them, I had the chance to discover more about their lifestyle, country, tradition, food, mindset, etc. My host child was adorable, I had lots and lots of memories with her and her family and I’ll never forget them. This experience means so much for me and I hope everyone will be able to enjoy their experience as much as mine!

What was your funniest moment?
I don’t have a particular one, but I will say every time my host child was talking with her parents. She was always really energetic, trying to make them laugh or annoy them, walking funny or like a model. She was the funniest haha !
Pros
  • Respect
  • Travelling with the family
  • Mental support
Cons
  • communication not always easy

My stay in Shenzhen

I unexpectedly ended up travelling to China in 2023 and while the first two weeks where a bit difficult (it was a huge change from the life I used to live), it ended up being on of the most beautiful adventures I've ever had. The agency staff were always trying to help as best as they could, giving their all to the job and the while experience was very enriching, because there's no better way to see a culture other than living with a family. And also met a lot of amazing people who also came to Au Pair! Really thankful for all of it!

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Don't quit after a few days or the first week, everyone needs to adapt, don't be afraid of the challenges because it might turn out to be one of the most beautiful adventures you've ever had!
Pros
  • Cultural experience and food
  • Life long friendships
  • Amazing memories
Cons
  • Depends on the family
  • Might be hard to leave after the program

Au pairing in Shenzhen

I always wanted to visit Asia, especially China, but since I grew up far away and my family wasn’t very well off, it felt impossible. Thanks to ICXC and the au pair program, I finally got the chance to spend 6 months in Shenzhen.

The city was fascinating. It was so modern and safe. My host family was incredibly kind and treated me like one of their own. We traveled together, celebrated Chinese holidays, and of course, I got to try a lot of delicious food. The host kid was super polite, and we had a lot of fun.

Even now, I’m still close with my host family, which makes this experience even more special. Those 6 months in China are something I will never forget.

Pros
  • A lot of delicious food
  • Chinese classes
  • Travelling
Cons
  • Missing my country's food
  • Language barriers
  • Shenzhen is very humid!

Great experience

I spent almost 6 months in Beijing, where I was able to visit and live so many things. I worked with an amazing 8 year old boy who shared my interest for Harry Potter and reading books, even tho we spent a lot of time studying there was always opportunity to play and teacher each other new games, he tried his best teaching me Chinese chess. The program was an amazing opportunity that allowed me to experience Chinese culture, the amazing foods and learn the language. ICXC is the best choice, they give you full support, they have cultural meetings during the month and a lot of other things.

One of the best places I have ever lived in

I really loved to stay in Shanghai, the host family was really kind, the kids were curious and we had a great time together, studying English, Spanish, French, going to the park, to the Karaoke, watching movies together and having new experience together. It was a pleasure to meet this family and live with them, improving my Chinese and I really learned more about Chinese culture. The agency Gave me the opportunity to study Chinese in one of their school and it was an amazing experience, with cultural appointment too (like the tea ceremony).

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
I think I would have more travels with my host family!
Pros
  • Making new friends
  • Studying Chinese culture
  • Staying with the kids in their daily routine
Cons
  • Language bareers
  • The house was a bit far away from the city center
  • Sometimes the food was really spicy

Au pair experience

I have been in China for seven months now through the ICXC au pair program, and my journey is still continuing. This opportunity has allowed me not only to live with a wonderful host family but also to study at Wuhan University, which has been an incredible chance to grow academically and personally.

Living in China has been a truly eye-opening experience. Every day I learn more about the culture, language, and daily life here. My host family has welcomed me warmly, and I’ve been able to share my own culture with them while helping their children with English. Of course, adapting to a new country and culture comes with challenges, but those moments have taught me resilience and independence.

ICXC has supported me throughout the process. From helping me prepare before I came, to staying in touch while I am here, they’ve made sure I never felt alone in this journey. So far, this experience has been one of the most rewarding of my life. I am excited to continue my stay, keep improving my Chinese, and deepen my cultural exchange. I would definitely recommend ICXC to anyone who wants to experience real life in China while also gaining personal and academic growth.

Thank you to the agency for giving me this opportunity—I look forward to continuing my journey with them.
