About Program

IES Abroad has been offering quality part-time internships for nearly 60 years and full-time internships with the introduction of IES Internships in 2013. You could kinda say we're experts... and now, we are bringing these internships to you even without traveling abroad through our Virtual Internship Program.

Just tell us what you want to do and if you have a location preference for your employer (one of several IES Abroad host cities), and IES Abroad will hook it up. You’ll get the same hands-on (just not literally), professional experience you’d get abroad while also gaining oh-so-important remote working skills, plus an international component to boot.

Aside from the world needing to work at a distance right now, IES Abroad knows it's not always easy to juggle classes, a part-time job, a social life, and an in-person internship with set hours, let alone leave home and stay abroad for months at a time do so (though if you can, we highly recommend it).

Diversity & Inclusion

LGBTQIA+ Support

Today, and every day, we celebrate who you are and who you will become. We take pride in simply getting to know you, and look forward to adventuring through this incredible world with you.

Studying abroad as part of the LGBTQIA+ community can present unique opportunities and challenges in exploring a new culture, so we have compiled resources on sexual orientation, gender identity, and allyship to help prepare you and support you along the way.

Neurodivergent Support

Going abroad, whether this is your first time or your umpteenth, can be a trip both literally and figuratively. Seeing something new or being someplace unfamiliar has its own challenges, especially when it comes to mental health and physical accessibility. With IES Abroad, you won't handle these concerns on your own.

We have not only compiled resources on mental health, physical health, and self-care to help prepare you and support you along the way, but we also have a dedicated Student Affairs staff that are available for you to contact from the United States and once in your host country.

Amazing Program

IES was a great program in which I learned a lot about not only my future ideal profession, but I also learned about the country's culture and how to engage in cultural competency in all fields. I was given the tools to independently succeed and did not need to check in with the program, but I always wanted to because I felt as if I had a strong community there at IES in which I could ask for advice or just go to them to share my stories. All of the people, from everyone who interviewed me to see my ideal placement to my teacher to the program I was placed in, all had very kind and understanding individuals who wanted me to succeed.

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
Teaching students from another country was scary, but they were so welcoming to have a teacher from a different country!

A Wonderful Experience

During my time at Impact Hub Vienna I was a Data Analysis and Market Research Intern. I was brought on to analyze multiple years' responses of their Members Survey and break down the questions by other variables of interest for multiple groups of people with different aims. An additional goal of my position was to research which organizations were running a program similar to the one my supervisor's team was looking to create and gather information about each program already functioning. Managing time differences and travel, my supervisors and I created a balanced schedule of meetings and independent work allowing me autonomy in the process of producing benchmark and final deliverables. I developed personally and professionally with the help of my supervisors and IES Mentor, Liz. I was able to gain additional data analysis knowledge through STATA work, hone my articulation skills in weekly meetings and presentations to team members, and virtually immerse myself in Austrian culture learning about popular food, music, history, economy, and political structure. I would definitely recommend this experience and had a great time with Impact hub and IES.

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
I had to present to many people in the organization, but my supervisor was always there to prep me and encourage me to do my best.
