About Program
The Semester in Development is a truly unique semester abroad program which allows students from all disciplines to both study AND intern in Kampala, Uganda for a full 3-month term.
For the academic component, students take 2 courses taught by local professors at Makerere University which transfer over for credit to home institutions. Classes are attended once a week on Mondays, for the duration of the semester.
For the rest of the week (Tuesday through Friday), students are placed in an internship with one of our 20+ Kampala-based partner organizations. We have partners in various sectors spanning different fields of interest and study, including public health, education, communications, and social business.
In addition to these two core components, all past participants have taken this opportunity to travel both within Uganda and to safe, neighboring countries, planning various activities like gorilla trekking, rafting on the Nile River, and visiting national parks.
