About Program
In the Community Health and Native Healing program, participants will learn about healthcare practices in Hawaii through a holistic lens and health challenges such as homelessness, poverty, drug use, and lack of access to healthy food, whilst examining recent and successful community-based approaches to address these issues. This program will help you understand medicine through Native Hawaiian cultural values, beliefs, history, and the practice of traditional kanaka maoli lapa‘au (Hawaiian medicine).
In the Immigrant and Refugee Health program, students will spend 2 weeks in the Bay Area, followed by 2 weeks in Central Valley. They will examine refugee and migrant health and rights from local success stories and examine gaps in services through policies, advocacy, educational and political art.
