I loved my semester with fashion weeks internships

I am a Political Science and French major, and I travelled abroad with fashion weeks internships actually in Paris not NY for the spring 2023 semester! I absolutely loved my experience. The staff is wonderfully happy and friendly, so even when I came upon difficult situations at the beginning of my internship, I never doubted that everything would be ok. If you're also looking to improve your French skills, this is definitely a great program for you. In my team we spoke french and English everyday, and my proficiency improved over the course of four months. I also loved getting to know the city, and more of Europe as a whole. I felt culturally fulfilled by the time I finished.
The work to begin with can be little streesful but if you trust that you will get the hang of it, it becomes so much fun.I cannot recommend fashion weeks internship enough.

Pros
  • very good connections to companies for me
  • really fun work team

the big apple is special!

Although I have been to New York before when I was a lot younger, this experience was truly unique! I had the opportunity to intern for 6 weeks at a Public Relations agency, but to be a New Yorker for the spring. I had the chance to explore the city in all its vibrancy and I truly had the best time! There is so much to see across the different neighborhoods and boroughs and springtime in New York is like no other.

Fashion Week Internships were so great at supporting me throughout the application process and for guiding me on everything I needed to prepare for the trip I highly recommend fashion week internships and I am forever grateful for the experience!

Pros
  • vibrant city so much energy

The service provided by Fashion Week Internships was perfect, everything was clear and easy

I am thankful for everything, the internship placement and all the support to arrange. I am glad I asked Fashion Week Internships to be my assistence within this journey. My internship has been fantastic; everyone in the company was very warm and welcoming from the very beginning. They trained me well and involved me within every step of the tasks of the company. So, it made me feel appreciated and respected. Fashion Week Internships recommended Webster Apartments for my room to say in. It's a modern and safe female-only apartment complex in the city. It was very fun because it was close to everything, and the facilities wer great, compared to maybe 3/4 star hotel. I also got the chance to meet other girls from other states and countries who were also interning in New York. It was an easy way of making new friends and feeling secure. My weekends were always spending exploring a new (touristic) place in NYC, or if I was working during the events of my internship, we focused on that which was also very fun to do.

Pros
  • felt suported thru the process
  • great connections

Very nice international internship experience

New York was always a city I wanted to travel too and intern in, and when I was accepted I didnt know what to expect.

The goal of my trip was to set myself above as many people as possible in terms of employability, and to experience the hustle and bustle that NYC was famous for.

In my first week, I was getting used to the city and seeing a host of amazing other things (like the music culture and the subway performers).

I had met a load of other interns in my housing who were all from different places, but together there was a real community and we later became good friends and spent time together doing social activities, like visitng the Rockefeller Centre and trying many of the food places we saw on Food Insider.

The staff in my internship were of the highest caliber. smart, friendly, and most of all supportive.

I did have some reservations before I trsvelled but there was a huge community waiting for me if I wanted it, and that made the exerience even more incredible.

Pros
  • historic city
  • great for foodies
  • high calibre internship
Cons
  • long flight

Can I move to New York?

I LOVED spending 6 weeks in NY for my fashion internship. The food was amazing and so different from home, the people were always super friendly and help if you need help with directions or subway entrances. I would love to go back now! My internship was really hands-on, and I met tons of new friends. I always recommend that you try and go abroad if you get the chance to experience the variety of people and difference between the countries. I elected to go through my university study abroad and was given a lot of help in all of the planning. Sam and me will never forgot all the grand times we had together in the big apple! I learned so much from this program, the city, the people and the internship, I'm really grateful for the chance.

Pros
  • Some colleges might offer grant assistance, mine did which really helped with costs
  • So many things to see and do
  • Really great work environment and great people to learn from
Cons
  • The flights were expensive

April 2023 in London with the Fashion Week Internships Program

The Fashion Week Internships organisation is a great resource in getting a good internship abroad specialized in fashion. All accommodation, the internship, and preparation calls are well organized. They guide you well before and during the internship and this makes it a more relaxing process.

The time in London was great, I met wonderful people and enjoyed most days. The work environment was friendly and flexible, and I was surprised how international the company is for culture and mentality. I had a great time, and will be happy to return in the future.

Pros
  • very well organized
  • easy to apply
  • internship is confirmed quickly
Cons
  • have to pay a fee to find me the internship
  • london is the expensive city
  • i did not receive any grant

2023 season fall winter shows

Its seems like a different lifetime that we were wearing masks and watching the shows online, but this year they were back. No more masks, no more social distancing, just the buzz and poetic chaos of collections being unveiled, and then just as quickly disappearing. I worked backstage at the Rodarte and Theory shows, and loved every second. My internship was just a week long so had to I grab the chance to do as much as possible, learning, and getting involved in everything Iw as asked to, dressing, working front of house, helping thre models, I did it all. Working the shows is relentless, and what you see on the runway doesnt reflect even half of the work that goes on backstage, and how tight the planning and timing is. A really great learning experience, that Iwould love to do again.

Pros
  • You get to work the shows
  • I got to work with some of my favourite brands
  • I could never have got these opportunities myself
Cons
  • I was only able to do 2 weeks which was too short
  • Including the cost of my hotel it was expensive to stay in the city
  • The hours were long, but during the shows you have to expect this I guess

Going to New York with Fashion Week Internships

Thanks to this internship, I am already seeing more opportunities and doors being opened to me. One piece of advice I would give to anyone looking for more internship or grad job opportunities when they finish is to join the fwi alumni group. It seems boring, but it has made my life and job search so much easier.

I thought I would be at a disadvantage not being able to go abroad for my experience but interning in NY has been a great experience and more relevant to my career goals. I can't give a review about going abroad but for US internships, fashion week internships is a good partner to work with.

Pros
  • tuition covered everything except housing
  • you get to meet awesome creatives
  • the work space is inclusive and friendly
Cons
  • work can be hard and the hours long
  • living alone is expensive so its bettr to share a place
  • four weeks is not nearly enough to really absorb the city and internship
