Give us an intro!

Paola: Hola! I'm Paola, a recent college graudate from Assumption College with a BA in Graphic Design. I'm from San Juan, Puerto Rico and I love to read, write, take photos on my free time and travel.

Why did you pick this program?

Paola: I picked The Intern Group because I've always wanted to intern in London. Not only would I live in a new city and meet new people but learning working skills abroad was a top priority for me.

What do you wish someone had told you before you went abroad?

Paola: I wish I knew how expensive London can be! I wish I had a better financial plan and understand that there is a currency exchange that will take a toll on your finances if you don't learn how to manage your money responsibly.

What is the most important thing you learned abroad?

Paola: Every day I learn something but the most important thing I learned abroad was to not fear the unknown. Of course I was afraid to travel to a new city with new people and a different culture. However, that's what life is all about. You need to take risks in order to have new experiences and grow as a person.

What do you tell your friends who are thinking about going abroad?

Paola: To do it! Don't overthink it. Just go because you won't regret it!

What was hardest part about going abroad?

Paola: I think the hardest part about going abroad was the time difference. I am close with my family and friends back home so I had to shift my schedule around to communicate with them.

What's your favorite story to tell about your time abroad?

Paola: Thursday nights at Shoreditch. It is probably my favorite place in London. The people and the environment is something to experience if you ever find yourself in London.

What made this experience unique and special?

Paola: I had the opportunity to meet some amazing people from the Intern Group as well. All of our different personalities and backgrounds just clicked and we have been close ever since.

Tell us about an experience you had that you could not have had at home.

Paola: I think the working experience that I received while in London. I've had internships in the past but this time it felt like an actual job with real deadlines and a new perspective to the working environment.

What is one piece of advice you'd give to someone going on your program?

A group of young students gathered together.

Paola: Do your research, and save money because while I don't regret doing this program, it is expensive, especially when paying for your certificate of sponsorship and your visa.

What made this trip meaningful to you, or how did this trip change your perceptions, future path?

Paola: This trip completely transformed me. I've had the opportunity to study abroad in the past but this time it felt different. This trip helped me have more confidence in myself, trust my instincts and it gave me reasurance that whatever it is that I do in the future I will be okay.

Where do I go for fun?

Paola: I mentioned earlier this street called Shoreditch. There is so much to do! From shopping to indie shops, to amazing inexpensive food, food festivals, to pubs I highly recommend this place. You will never get bored.
