EF Volunteer Experience

This program combines volunteer experience of 50 hours or more with a minimum 8-week EF Language Course. In addition to making progress toward fluency in your language course with interactive lessons inside and outside of the classroom, you’ll enrich your understanding of the language by volunteering part-time at a local organization. You’ll develop specialized language skills and gain experience in an international environment – all documented with an EF Certificate of Volunteer Experience.

Costa Rica is an amazing and beautiful country! Made so many new friends i will carry in my heart forever, learned a lot of spanish and grew personally.

I stayed in a host family close to Tamarindo and they're so nice and caring. The school is beautiful, the teachers and staff are such nice people. Tamarindo is a small beach town but there is lots to do and from here you can go anywhere you want to go so you can visit all the beautiful places and beaches.

I had an amazing experience here and i will never forget my time here and i know i will return one day!

I loved my stay with EF Playa Tamarindo, I really improved my Spanish and enjoyed my time there. The school is a very nice place to study, the teachers are good and the groups are small so we can learn more. The housing is very good too and it is safe. There are many different activities to do and great excursions. I would recommend this school to anyone who want to improve his Spanish and have fun at the same time. I met a lot of people and now I have many friends around the world !

My time spent in Costa Rica were some of the best months of my life! My host mom became a second mom to me, and we will stay in contact for a long time! The classes, the school, the people, all made Costa Rica a welcoming and inclusive place to study and live! I made incredible friends from all over the world, and I can't wait to see them again, hopefully back in where we met in Tamarindo! My Spanish improved, as well as my understanding of the world and different cultures, and my independence! Time abroad in Costa Rica was one of the best decisions I have made, and I will cherish it always! Pura Vida!

I had an amazing 3 months at the EF Costa Rica school. Not only did I learn significant conversational Spanish, but I made lifelong friends, surfed a lot and explored the beautiful country of Costa Rica.

What is your favorite travel memory?

My favorite travel memory was when I was able to zip line in Costa Rica while meeting people from around the world who I was able to practice speaking Spanish with.

Costa Rica is such a beautiful country with some of the most welcoming people I have ever met. I learned about the culture, the language, and had so much fun!

How have you changed/grown since working for your current company?

Since working for EF I have grown tremendously with my customer service skills, my confidence in decision making, my ability to problem-solve, and communicating clearly among different cultures.

What is the best story you've heard from a return student?

One of my favorite stories I have heard from a student who did one year with us in Germany was when he told me he had become fluent in German and decided to work in Munich pursuing his dream of living abroad and working in the hospitality industry.

If you could go on any program that your company offers, which one would you choose and why?

I would love to go to the Spanish immersion program in Barcelona in order to improve my Spanish and live in one of the best cities in the world.

I was able to sit in on one class during my visit to the school and I learned more in that one class than in the semester I took Spanish in college. Also, the staff in Barcelona is so energetic and helpful with all of the students.

What makes your company unique? When were you especially proud of your team?

EF is unique because of its staff and mission.

The staff from around the world all share in the same core values and are passionate about helping the world through education.

I am always having moments of pride for my team because we are able to overcome any obstacle and also make the experiences of our students unforgettable!
