Host family and intensive course (JP - Osaka)

As a 31-year-old, I wasn’t sure what to expect from returning to language learning, but this school has been a great experience. What stands out most is how flexible it is. The structure adapts to your needs without becoming a “free for all”: there’s a good balance between room to shape your own learning and enough guidance to keep you progressing.
I also stayed with a host family, which made the experience much more immersive. Living with locals gave me daily practice outside the classroom.
Feedback is genuinely encouraged here. The staff invite you to share what’s working and what isn’t, and that openness makes a real difference. Many hold back and then complain privately once they’re frustrated, but here the environment asks you to speak up, and problems get addressed almost immediately!
The teachers are quick to ask what you need and adjust accordingly, often so smoothly you barely notice.
Special thanks to Suekane Junichi, Kozen Norikazu, Kagawa Miyoko, Watanabe Ayumi and Nobori Saki, who read the room, spot where you’re struggling, and adapt on the fly, even in group classes.
I’d recommend this school to anyone who wants a learning experience that is both adaptable and genuinely responsive to its students.

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
The only thing I would change is my arrival date. As a visa holder I was legally bound to the enter Japan before the beginning of august. That was simply too hot for my internal thermometer, so if I could choose, I would arrive at a cooler time of year.
Pros
  • Flexible structure that balances student autonomy with clear guidance.
  • Host family stay that provides natural, immersive practice outside the classroom.
  • Teachers and staff who actively ask for feedback and adjust quickly to students’ needs.
What other participants should know
  • Start in the cooler months if you can. Osaka summers are very hot and humid.
  • Speak up early. The staff actively ask for feedback and will adjust things quickly, but only if you tell them what isn’t working. Don’t wait until you’re frustrated to mention it!
  • Host family life is a real part of the experience. Living with locals gives you daily practice outside class, but it also means adjusting to their routines and house rules, so come ready to communicate and be flexible.

A great all around experience at LTL Osaka

I studied at LTL Language School Osaka for 3 weeks from July-mid August 2026 and had an unforgettable time, it exceeded my expectations immensely. I opted in for the half-board Homestay accommodation alongside my lesson plan, which was a great choice and my speaking ability improved so much from daily interactions with the host family. My objective was to improve my reading and writing skills on Hiragana and Katakana and learn some Kanji, while mainly focusing on improving my speaking ability and confidence. The lesson structure was flexible to accommodate my needs and I had lessons with 6 different teachers and I genuinely enjoyed every lesson! The teachers are relaxed and authentic in their approach to getting to know you as a student and understanding your requirements, and there were many times when I was talking to them about shared experiences so comfortably that I forgot I was actually speaking Japanese with them! I was given the Tobira Intermediate textbook on arrival, which definitely challenged me. I also had multiple Kanji tests to assess my progress; which in turn made me motivated to work hard and study Kanji, the area I'm weakest in. The school director Hiyori-San works hard to organise multiple socials every week for the students to get to know eachother, and I've made some great friends through this experience. Special mention to my senseitachi Hiroko Nishioka-San, who taught me multiple times and was very kind and instructive! Also to Junichi Seukane-San, with whom I had fun discussing Japanese Philosophy and Religion, and Naomi Miyai-San, who taught me on my very last day but left a lasting impression on me. The lessons were so much more than Japanese grammar and language, and I was able to have many interesting conversations about Japanese society and culture with all of them. I am overjoyed to have graduated with a B1 qualification, and I'm more motivated than ever to keep learning Japanese. I definitely recommend LTL Osaka to anyone looking for a Japanese language school. Thank you for the excellent service!

What was your funniest moment?
We did a school day trip to the Nunobiki Herb Garden in Kobe on the Japanese National Holiday Yama no Hi; and it was a really fun outing. We had great fun exploring the garden together, and chatting with everyone on the giant net hammock is memorable.
Pros
  • The teachers' attitudes and authenticity
  • The socials! Lots of different options.
  • Getting a graded certificate at the end!
What other participants should know
  • There was a higher than expected number of lessons with different teachers
  • It is quite expensive with the homestay included. Now that I have some roots in Osaka, I would find my own accomodation and just pay for the school.

One month with ltl osaka

It was an amazing experience. We did alot of trips with the classes and the school. Sometimes just gooing out together for dinner and sometimes visiting some interesting places. The Teachers and the employees of the school were really freindly and communicative. It is well organised and the week sceduals are easy to follow. sometimes the lessons changed from being in the morning to being in the afternoon, so we could recover in the morning on certain days and go exploring japan on other days. I loved it and i will certainly go again to an LTL school in japan!

Pros
  • freindy enviroment
  • funny lessons
  • good working atmosphere

LTL Japanese Language School in Tokio ist klasse!

I can wholeheartedly recommend LTL in Tokyo (Akihabara)! It's a shame I can only give 5 stars!

The teachers I met during my two-week – truly intensive – educational leave are incredibly dedicated and professional, creating a motivating learning environment. The lessons were varied, practical, and perfectly tailored to the students' needs. A special thank you goes to my tireless teachers Naho, Kayo, Miyu, Yuko, Kumiko, and Emiko (and thanks to everyone else I may have forgotten!), who, especially during the afternoon one-on-one lessons, patiently shared not only their language skills but also a wealth of information about Japanese daily life and culture.

The friendly and competent support from the entire LTL team is also worth highlighting. They were always incredibly kind and helpful with organizational questions and extracurricular activities.

My homestay was also a particular highlight. My host mother, Nobu, was incredibly warm and welcoming from day one. As a beginner in Japanese, it was a huge advantage that Nobu speaks excellent English. Living with her family allowed me not only to improve my language skills in everyday situations but also to experience Japanese culture and family life in an authentic way. The family was always helpful, open to conversation, and made my stay an unforgettable experience. Next time, I definitely want to stay with Nobu and her children again! I even had a room that was huge by Japanese standards, yet still cozy, and I would always prefer a host family to a cramped, noisy boarding house! ...even if it means a longer commute to the language school.

Overall, I gained so much, both linguistically and personally. An outstanding experience that exceeded my expectations. If you're looking for a high-quality language school in Tokyo, this is the place to be! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐+

Viele Grüße aus Deutschland!

Nächstes Mal wieder - Next time again

English:
The team at LTL Language School Tokyo is a fun and diverse group with many different interests, which is fantastic for the lessons! If you inform the teachers in a timely manner, they readily accommodate requests and demands. This means you can focus on vocabulary, phrases, and idioms related to your own interests, as you're not bound to the textbook. The material covered in class, how much, and how it's presented can be determined by the group/individual, making it ideal for those who are self-motivated and eager to learn.

The downside of this flexibility is that finding the right group can be challenging. While efforts are made to place students with different language levels in different groups, this relies on assessments from both the teacher and, more importantly, the students themselves. This can sometimes slow down the learning progress.

On the other hand, it's really great that there are regular events and excursions you can participate in. On the other hand, the way students are informed about and motivated to participate can seem a bit chaotic and/or is sometimes too short notice. Since the average age is relatively young, I think a bit more structure in this area would be beneficial.

For example, lists could be distributed the day before/in the morning for students to sign up (or sign up) for the upcoming event. This way, students wouldn't have to be recruited after class; they could simply count once without any confusion.

Aside from the few shortcomings mentioned, I felt very well looked after during my two-month stay! I was always greeted with a bright smile and a friendly atmosphere at reception, and I received patient help with any issues I encountered during the registration process.

I'm very happy to have found this school and can wholeheartedly recommend it.

LTL Tokyo - Small Group & Individual

I’m from Mexico and I studied Japanese at LTL Tokyo for 6 months. I highly recommend the Small Group & Individual program, especially for beginners or elementary levels. The extra 1on1 classes really help with conversation and confidence. The school has a very welcoming atmosphere and I met people from many different countries. I lived in two different homestays in interesting areas of Tokyo, with great food and lots of chances to practice Japanese. The staff are super helpful and fun. Highly recommended! Hope to come back in the Osaka school next year.

Living my dream

I spent 1 month in Japan Tokyo studying Japanese at LTL language school and staying with host family. I did group classes, 1on1 classes and Safari classes. The teachers are excellent, everyone was so kind and friendly! LTL became my family! We had also many fun socal activities (eg origami making, calligraphy, going to a festival). My host family was so adorable and caring and the homemade food very delicious (still dreaming of it). Totally recommending choosing LTL for your studies!

Last year I studied in China, Beijing for 1 month at LTL school Mandarine Chinese, this year Japanese in Tokyo. Next year going to LTL Seoul school for Korean classes and then to Hanoi! I have gone to over 15 language schools around the world and LTL is my favourite one!!

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Don’t be afraid! Make your dreams come true! You will not regret it! And will have amazing memories and friends for life! LTL school makes it so safe and easy also for solo travellers. I just took my backpack and went from Finland to Japan on my own for the first time. LTL had organized me an amazing host family who took excellent care of me. School became my second family. I was never alone. I had always backup and support. In one month I had amazing school friends, loving family, many friends and lots of fun activities and my Japanese jumped to a higher level and I learnt so much about culture. Part of me became Japanese. After the trip I miss everyone already so much and cannot wait to go back! Face your fears and make dreams reality!
