Back for a new semester

After taking a short break, I’m back at XMandarin for another semester, it still feels like great. One thing I’ve always appreciated about the school is how personalized the classes are. This time around, I wanted to focus more on conversational Mandarin and some business-related vocabulary, and my teacher adjusted the lessons according to this. They’re super flexible and really listen to what you want to achieve. I definitely saw improvement during my last semester, especially with speaking and listening.

Outside the classroom, the school also has a really great community with people from all over the world to connect with.

If you're thinking about learning Mandarin and want a school that’s professional, welcoming, and fun, XMandarin is a fantastic choice.

My experience in Chengdu

I decided to join XMandarin’s group classes to take a gap year before starting university next year. Their service, excellent support, and engaging group learning environment convinced me to study Mandarin in Chengdu.

I arrived in China just over two months ago, and it has been the most incredible experience of my life! The food, the culture, and especially the people in Chengdu are amazing. Even in this short time, I can already feel that I’ve made great progress with my Mandarin skills and gained confidence.

I also really enjoy joining the events that XMandarin hosts every month, they really teach me about the local Chengdu Culture!

Private business Chinese courses

I have been working at a Chinese logistics company in Qingdao for the past few months, and I started private business Chinese classes at XMandarin to improve my communication at work.

At first, I wasn’t sure if I really needed lessons, my coworkers mostly speak some English, but once meetings and emails got more serious, I realized how important it is to understand the language and business culture here. XMandarin really helped me with that.

The lessons were focused on what I actually needed: common phrases for meetings, polite ways to disagree or make suggestions, and how to write short formal messages in Chinese. My teacher also explained cultural things like how hierarchy works in communication, or what kind of tone is expected in different situations. That was super helpful.

We met twice a week, and the schedule was flexible around my work hours. The materials were good, but what really helped was that the teacher made the class feel relevant, we even practiced with real examples from my emails or work conversations.

After a couple of months, I definitely feel more confident in meetings, and I can follow more of what’s going on. Still a long way to go, but this was a good investment. If you’re working in China and want to improve your professional communication, I’d recommend the private business Chinese classes here.

A very helpful language school

Before coming to China, I was really stressed about the visa process. It’s not super clear when you’re trying to figure it out from Europe, and everything online seems complicated or outdated. Luckily, the XMandarin team was super helpful from the beginning. They explained everything clearly, told me exactly what documents I needed, and were really patient when I had questions (which was a lot haha). They helped organize the invitation letter and supported me through the application. Once I arrived in Qingdao, they also helped with the residence registration and local formalities, which can be a bit overwhelming if you’re alone in a new country where they barely speak English. If you’re planning to do an internship or study Chinese and you need visa help, I’d definitely recommend reaching out to them. It’s not a magic solution, but they do make the whole process way smoother.

Great quality of the Business Chinese Language Courses!

I am currently working in Chengdu for a Chinese company, outside of work I wanted to improve my mandarin related to Business. I am taking the Business Chinese Courses at XMandarin Chengdu and I have no regret with my decision. My teacher is very good and has helped me a lot. Really happy with the overall learning experience. They also taught me about Chinese Business etiquette, which I can use while doing business in China. I would strongly recommend XMandarin Chengdu for learning Mandarin or even Business Chinese!

Why did you choose this program?

I wanted an immersive environment where I could truly practice Mandarin daily, not just in class but also in real life. XMandarin Chengdu stood out because of its flexible courses, cultural activities, and central location. I also loved that Chengdu isn’t as overwhelming as Beijing or Shanghai but still offers a great mix of tradition and modernity. The affordability of the city was another major plus. I knew I would be getting great value for my money while studying in an exciting, yet relaxed environment.

What did your program provider (or university) assist you with, and what did you have to organize on your own?

XMandarin made everything easy for me. They assisted with my visa, accommodation, class schedule. The support staff was always available to answer questions, whether it was about my studies or adjusting to life in China. What I had to handle on my own was daily expenses, SIM card registration, and setting up Alipay & WeChat Pay, but the staff gave me guidance on how to do everything step by step. I also planned my own weekend trips around Sichuan province, which was a great way to practice my Mandarin outside of class.

What is one piece of advice you'd give to someone going on your program?

Be proactive in speaking Chinese from day one! It’s easy to rely on English or translation apps, but challenging yourself to speak Mandarin as much as possible will accelerate your progress. Also, embrace Chengdu’s unique culture like going out to try Sichuan food, visit the tea houses, and don’t be afraid to chat with locals. Lastly, I wish I had brought a VPN before arriving because many apps and websites I needed were blocked in China.

What does an average day/week look like as a participant of this program?

A typical weekday would start with intensive Chinese classes in the morning, focusing on grammar, pronunciation, and conversation. Afternoons were flexible, I either joined cultural activities like tea ceremonies or calligraphy, studied at a local café, or explored the city. Evenings were spent practicing Chinese at language exchange meetups or grabbing hotpot with friends. On weekends, I’d take short trips to places like Leshan Buddha or Qingcheng Mountain. The balance between structured learning and cultural exploration made my experience truly immersive.

Going into your experience abroad, what was your biggest fear, and how did you overcome it? How did your views on the issue change?

My biggest fear was that I wouldn’t be able to communicate effectively, especially since my Mandarin was very basic when I arrived. At first, it was intimidating trying to order food or ask for directions, but I quickly realized that people were incredibly patient and willing to help. The key was consistently using what I learned in class and not being afraid of making mistakes. Over time, I became more confident, and by the end of the program, I could hold full conversations with locals—something I never thought would be possible in just a few months!

What was the most memorable part of your experience in Chengdu?

Without a doubt, joining the cultural events organized by XMandarin. One of my favorite memories was going to Panda Valley and learning about China’s conservation efforts while practicing Mandarin with my classmates. Another highlight was our Sichuan Opera night, where we watched the famous Bian Lian (face-changing) performance!

Fu Wei

Job Title
Marketing Manager
Fu Wei is the Marketing Manager at XMandarin Chinese Language School, where she oversees daily marketing operations and helps promote the school’s programs to local foreigners and international students. She focuses on practical strategies to increase visibility and student engagement.

What is your favorite travel memory?

My favorite travel memory is from when I was doing my master’s in South Korea. On a short school break, I took a solo trip to Busan. I walked along the beach, ate fresh seafood at the local market, and watched the sunset from a small mountain temple. It was peaceful, and I felt proud to travel alone in a new country.

How have you changed/grown since working for your current company?

Before I was only doing small parts of marketing. Now I can plan full campaigns and talk with more people. I learned many new skills and also how to work with an international team. I understand better how to share ideas clearly, manage time well, and solve problems when things don’t go as planned. It has helped me grow a lot, both in work and in life.

What is the best story you've heard from a return student?

One student came to XMandarin just for a short time to study Chinese. After their course, they told me they found a good job in Qingdao and decided to live here long-term. They still come back to visit us and say XMandarin helped them a lot with language and life in China. Hearing their story makes me very happy and proud of our work.

If you could go on any program that your company offers, which one would you choose and why?

I would choose the visa program because it lets you stay in China for a longer time and really focus on learning Chinese without hurry. You also have more time to enjoy life here, explore the culture, and make friends. The visa program is very helpful because it makes everything easier and less stressful with official support and clear guidance.

What makes your company unique? When were you especially proud of your team?

Many schools don’t help with visas, but we give real support for long-term learning and legal stay in China. I was very proud of our team when we helped a student who had a serious visa problem. We worked quickly to solve it, and the student was able to stay and continue studying without stress. It showed how much we care about our students beyond just classes.

What do you believe to be the biggest factor in being a successful company?

I think the biggest factor is listening. If we really listen to students and our team, we can understand their problems and needs better. Then we can make good changes to improve our services and work environment. This helps build trust and loyalty, which is very important for the company to grow and succeed over time.
