Not as expected

I was extremely impressed with the diversity of courses available to me as an international student. I was able to direct enroll, so I had the opportunity to take courses that I wouldn't have at my home institution. I was able to learn a lot about Egyptian society, both classical and contemporary, which makes everyday life more exciting when you can understand and appreciate the things around you. The professors are extremely knowledgeable and really helped me engage in the course material- a lot of which I had never been exposed to prior to my semester here. The campus is absolutely beautiful, with palm trees and fountains at every turn.
Excellent Faculty always prepared to assist you and provide guidance. Very good Arabic courses. The University is very big and contains many sport facilities such as a swimmingpool, a running track, gyms, a baskettball court and a soccer field.

Experiencing Egypt

My semester abroad at AUC was super exciting. The campus in New Cairo is beautiful, the conditions for studying are just perfect. They have a well-equipped library with a nice studying atmosphere. Apart from that they have great sports facilities, several gyms and a swimming pool. The campus also offers a lot of quiet and green areas for studying or taking a break. The support from the international office was always very helpful. The atmosphere is international and there are a lot of students from all over the world which makes the experience really unique. The best thing was the Arabic course in which I learned really a lot about the language and the culture. Cairo is an amazing place to live in and studying in this city is perfect to really get to know it and its people.

Great experience

One of the few universities in the Middle East that makes it relatively easy for Americans to apply for a single semester and get full transferrable credit - if you're interested in the region, definitely consider it! I've really valued my time here.

My classes have been interesting, the campus is gorgeous, and the other students are super friendly and willing to help. Cairo is very fun city - there are always new things going on, and outlets for any type of person. Egypt is also a wonderful country, with a ton to see. I didn't realize how much I would want to travel within Egypt before coming here, but I've found one semester to be not nearly enough to check out everything I have wanted to do. The American University in Cairo offers a great opportunity to study and experience this beautiful country!

What would you improve about this program?
If you want university housing, that can be a complicated process, so start early.

Semester Abroad

Excellent Faculty always prepared to assist you and provide guidance. Very good Arabic courses. The University is very big and contains many sport facilities such as a swimmingpool, a running track, gyms, a baskettball court and a soccer field. The library is very modern and big, with electric sockets, wifi and AC. The environment is always very fiesty and there are always many activities to undertake. The best part are the trips around Egypt organized by the university. The university, as Egypt in general, is a very safe country. The university is located in the desert, in New cario. It is close to many malls and very good restuarants. The atmosphere is very quite and there is a lot of nature around the campus that makes the study experience even better.

Love this school!

AUC offers an excellent opportunity for those who are looking for a fresh and exciting adventure, while receiving an excellent education. The faculty and staff extends unconditional support, and have made my stay here a wonderful experience. Not to mention that the campus is the most beautiful, especially during Spring and Summer when the flowers all over campus are in full bloom. The students at AUC are super friendly, and have made the transition here that more exciting! I love it here and will be so sad when I graduate! I stayed in AUC new campus, which is a little ways away from Downtown, but there are several buses offered to students that can get me to anywhere in Cairo! So much to see here and experience!

The AUC Experience

Deciding on a school for postgraduate studies is one of the most challenging decisions most parents and students face particularly, with the myriad of institutions dotted around. Being a perfectionist, I lingered over the choice until my elder brother urged me to apply to AUC. Right from the get go, the International Peer Leaders and the First Year Experience (FYE) team make sure that the transition process is seamless. International students are made to feel at home and quickly integrated into the AUC community. Trips are organized for international student to network and explore the rich heritage of Egypt. AUC truly lives up to its reputation as Egypt's Global University. AUC has given me a whole new perspective on life and prepared me to face the future with confidence in my abilities.
If you are planning to study in an institution which supports you right through the application process and stays with you for the rest of your life then, AUC is your surest bet. Coming to AUC has been one of the most fulfilling chapters of my academic story.

Intriguing Academics and Beautiful Campus

Egypt is such a unique country, and gave me an unforgettable study abroad experience. The international student office is extremely helpful and organize outings to help you acclimate to your new environment. They do a really good job of helping all the international students bond with each other, which makes the transition easier since you're surrounded by people who most likely feel the same as you.

What would you improve about this program?
New Cairo is about 45 minutes away from Cairo. Uber is readily available and extremely convenient, but the distance makes it hard to really immerse yourself in an authentic Egyptian experience.

Great Potential

This is my fifth year at AUC and I am very happy with my choice to come here to live and study. The professors in the Political Science department are exceptionally helpful and have immense knowledge to give the students. They never fail to make the learning experience challenging and very much worth the hard work. I appreciate how available they always are and how ready they are to help with any difficulty.
International students are treated very well here and provided with all the assistance and care they could ever need. Many of the professors are the reason why I stayed here at AUC for my MA in Political Science.
It is a wonderful campus and campus life would benefit so much academically and socially with more international students.
The location of the campus is pretty remote from old Cairo where internationals can have the real Egyptian Experience. Still you can always plan a trip downtown and enjoy it anytime you want.

Great Place...Full of Potentials

AUC is good, full of opportunities for curious minds.
I had my skepticisms when coming to Egypt for grad studies, but AUC provides the appropriate standard that could be obtained anywhere in the world.
The location within Cairo is good, it is accessible from anywhere in the city. The learning environment is conducive, encouraging exploration and research. The staff and faculty are very helpful, and are ready to help willing students in their academic and career pursuits. As I grad student, I want to commend the AUC work/study programs, they provide an opportunity to learn new things, and make little cash for some basic needs.
Just like in any society you will find the good, the bad and the ugly in Cairo and AUC as well. The good: AUC is a great place with lots of opportunities for the curious mind, the bad: language barrier within campus is still a nagging issue, the ugly: despite the many efforts of the University to enlighten students about people from outside Egypt, some students are still very ignorant.
In all, its a good place!

Had a wonderful time I'll remember forever

I had the best experience as an exchange student in AUC. I absolutely loved my classes (i took anthropology and sociology) and the profs were quite qualified, although sometimes confused. Some gave us too much freedom, which was frustrating. but otherwise they are very knowledgeable and willing to help. I made so many friends through school activities and in the dorms. Dorm community is a very cozy environment, the campus is safe. Only negative was that the level of education is lower than in my home university, but that is only in your advantage if you desire good grades. Also the location of the campus in New Cairo is very inconvenient, because it is far from everything, and there's not much to do in New Cairo. Otherwise, amazing experience, amazing people, qualified staff. Overall, I am too sad to leave this place.

What would you improve about this program?
Fix the visa issues with the international students. A lot of people complained about the system not being effective.
