Fantastic Cultural Experience, Great Academic Experience

Studying abroad in Egypt was an amazing time. The academics at AUC are really great. The class offerings are especially interesting, and the professors all want their students to genuinely learn the material they are covering. Even better than the academics, though, are the cultural experiences here. Visiting Cairo is easy and affordable, and it combined with the classroom to teach me so much about Africa, Egypt, and Islam. It was really great to see how what I was learning in the classroom applied to the world around me, and to be able to appreciate your community more deeply as a result.

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?
Roasted and stuffed pigeon! It's a traditional Egyptian food that is very good and worth it to try.

Great experience, I have been learning a lot

I am absolutely thrilled to be in Egypt. It has been an amazing experience and I got to meet people from different cultures. I am very happy I chose this place as my number one destination. The landscape is beautiful and the people are wonderful, very friendly and always willing to help you in any way. I have felt wholesome overall. I would definitely recommend it for someone who seeks for adventure and wants to try new things and discover different places and people. Although is a very chaotic place, it has some magic in it.

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
Crossing the street was definitely an interesting experience. At first it can be very scary

Unique Experience

AUC campus is a whole melting pot! You get to experience a ton of new cultures and at the same time learn about the Egyptian culture. The professors care about your education and try to help you as much as possible. Cairo as a city is wonderful with so much to see and do! AUC offers clubs and activities for everyone ( robotics, film, photography, etc). The campus itself is beautiful! Plenty of gardens and sitting areas for the students to enjoy! Also they have a great gym with a big pool for anyone to use. My experience at AUC has been nothing but great!

Study Abroad at AUC

Before I went to AUC I was a bit concerned that I would feel uncomfortable during my stay here but that is absolutely not the case. The atmosphere here is very welcoming and there are lots of activities that you can participate in to meet new people (sports, trips, cultural).
The sizes of the classes are relatively small, which makes it easier to participate in class and ask questions.
The campus is beautiful and has different offers for getting food and coffee, as well as many places to learn or meet with friends.

Study Abroad at AUC

There's nothing quite like Egypt... from incredible food, music, people, culture, Egypt gives you an experience you'll never forget.

I always wanted to go abroad and experience a culture that was very different from the normal western culture I was used to, and I'm so glad I chose to go to Egypt. I was nervous to travel by myself to a different country and be away for my family for so long, but the people here at AUC are so incredibly welcoming. Over these past few months, I've made friends that feel more like family and have had experiences I'll never forget.

Go Study Abroad at AUC ! Definitely worth it !

Fear, insecurity, homesickness, leaving your family behind, unfamiliar food, and going completely outside of your comfort zone: Is your present life, with all of its amenities and conveniences, worth sacrificing for a few months in a new city, to encounter new people, live a distinct life, and face countless challenges?

The answer is simply “Yes.” I would definitely go for another study abroad program in Egypt. Being mindful that a different country may not be a tranquil and heavenly, utopic place at first, it will take a few weeks or more, and some sleepless nights and insecure moments until the fun actually starts. You’ll become familiar with the place, people, and even the smell of the air!

I can give hundreds of reasons why you should get out of your comfort zone and experience a new adventure in Egypt and at the AUC community. You will not just embrace a new culture, make new friendships, and grow as a person, but you’ll be in disbelief of the very enjoyable self-learning journey you’re likely to experience that’ll mark your personality forever.

From an exchange undergrad student at AUC who came back as a graduate student.

Decent school

The academics here are not exactly comparable to a great school in the US, but certainly in the ball park. Regardless of how well they teach, all of my professors have been extremely kind, encouraging, and willing to meet up to go over questions. The city of Cairo, downtown, Zemelek, and all those areas are about an hour away. New Cairo itself (where AUC is located) is kind of a weird city, mostly malls, they seem to be going for a Dubai vibe, but downtown is very “Egypt” so it’s nice that it’s only an hour away. Campus is very secure and staff is very friendly.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
I would have decided to live in an apartment in the downtown Cairo area instead of the AUC housing

AUC Study Abroad

I love the campus and the community! They are very welcoming of international students. The professors are attentive and the classes are engaging. The journalism department is particularly strong. The food is great. Make sure to grab coffee at L’aroma if you go. They organized a trip to the pyramids also. Very enthusiastic community with lots of events planned for an integrated campus experience. I have so much fun here and would recommend it to anyone who asked. Definitely a worthwhile opportunity.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
I would live off campus. I recommend Maadi or Zamalek

Study Abroad

Going to Cairo, Egypt has been a unique experience. Especially since I haven't been in the continent of Africa before. Honestly, the initial epiphany I reached was the fact of how much I was influenced by Western media. Just because of the subconscious judgmental based assumptions I had of the country before I got here.

The warmth and the open arms being offered here has been such an important part of the experience and it has made me so grateful for the experience being in Egypt.

AUC itself is a big contribution to this. Since it's a big institution, it's an artform of how well-treated I've felt here.
Thank you,
Juliana

Year abroad

I would’t change a thing! The campus is beautiful, curated down to the smallest detail. The experience has been amazing, I am learning so much about a different culture and, at the same time, about myself.
The teachers are attentive and available. Although the methodology is different from what I am used to, I feel comfortable with the academic interactions I am having. I am very grateful to have the opportunity to study at such a prestigious university.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Don’t be afraid and be open to change. It is worth it!
