Life Changing Experience

I have been here in AUC for three months now , and the least I can say is that I am loving it. The campus has a unique and beautiful architecture. It is safe, and the whole neighborhood is quite and clean. The AUC community is inclusive, diverse and welcoming. AUC workers are helpful and professional, and actually super nice. One thing that I admire is the vivid life here. A lot of new opportunities, clubs, workshops, competitions, concerts and you name it. Everyday, I get to meet new people and learn new things. I honestly feel the progress I have been making.
Thank you AUC.

It also has beautiful dorms with many places to relax and breathe some fresh air in front of its fabulous gardens. It is so satisfying to walk around in the gardens. The university also delivers high-quality education through its various programs and many student clubs to join. Student services are good and there is a lot of care for international students. It's a great deal overall.

Amazing, lifelong experience!

My studies here are very good, I feel like my teachers here truly are passionate about teaching and I find the content much more useful and relevant for what I want to do in my post-university career. For example, I am taking a photography class and being in Cairo while also taking a course that focuses in on creativity and expression has very much enabled me to experience Cairo in a creative way. Being required to go out into downtown Cairo and explore whilst taking pictures definitely helps push me out of my comfort zone. One note: there are many government buildings and embassies that are protected by armed guards that stop us from taking pictures anywhere near it, which develops a sort of paranoia in photo-takers whilst strolling through Cairo looking for a photo opportunity. The mixed architectures of Cairo have been my favorite to take photos of.
The friend-making process was seamless, I hardly recall meeting anyone because it felt like I've known many of my friends here for years.
Being in Cairo is also a very unique cultural experience. The food, religion, architecture, and the people are like nowhere else! I feel like being here has made me more of a creative person and made me more of an open minded person and receptive to new experiences and inspirations.

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
Cairo is infamous for their lack of crosswalks or any sort of traffic infrastructure. I was downtown and crossing a busy street. I was nearly 2 months into my stay here and I pretty much had the hang of it. Don't stop walking, stare at the drivers when you cross, put your hand up if it's a bit iffy. I did all these things but this one guy in a gray Chevy just did not stop. I could hear my hand make the dry screech as it passed along the car's body, and I felt the wheel of the car roll straight over the ~1cm of extra toe room i had in my right shoe. A very close call for my big toe.

"A Resort they Call University"

The title is how an American friend in a study abroad program described the AUC's campus, which I found so accurate; the best thing about AUC is probably its campus indeed, with excellent and unique architecture and a vast and biologically diverse garden. It is also characterized by a vibrant atmosphere, led by exciting and recurrent student-led activities and events. You will also meet people with radically diverse backgrounds and interests. Overall, Cairo is a lot of fun; you can hardly get bored.
Academically, I think the University is pretty good, but I advise you to search for the specific courses you will take. Overall, get a good professor, and you're safe.

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?
Molokheya, it's weird but good with bread. I really advise exploring food here!

Vibrant, Fresh, Charming

Cairo has a vibrant community and a complex culture. AUC's school of humanities and social sciences is very exciting and, as an anthropology major, I couldn't be happier. It feels great to study humanities courses that are axed on the MENA region and its different cultures. I am taking anthropology courses on gender, film, Middle Eastern studies, social media, and all of them are thought-provoking. The faculty itself is beyond passionate about what they do which translates to us students immediately.

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?
Koshari. The first time I had it, I could not believe how good it was.

Arabic classes at AUC

Learning Arabic at AUC was a wonderful experience! I chose to take both Modern Standard Arabic (formal) and the Egyptian dialect. If you want to be able to understand written Arabic, the formal Arabic is inevitable. If you want to learn the spoken dialect, I would choose Egyptian!

What I want to highlight the most, was how our teacher made us feel comfortable and at ease from the first day of class! We explored the language together as a group, and she created the best learning environment.

I highly want to recommend this course! You will get plenty of guidance and the chance to ask any questions you want, hear interesting and fun facts about the Egyptian culture and the possibility to learn the most beautiful language!
