CIS Abroad

I absolutely loved my time abroad and I would recommend CIS to anyone going abroad. I was really nervous to go abroad because I didn't know anyone and it was a new place, but I am so glad that I did and so glad that I went out of my comfort shell. We had a point of contact we could always text for any reason, he took us out for free meals all the time, and we did about 2-3 weekend trips around Ireland where everything was included. It was very helpful to have a local as a contact point if we were ever lost or needed help with something. The trips that we went on were so much fun and I met some of my closest friends within the CIS program. We all got along and were like one big family. CIS definitely exceeded my expectations and I will never forget the experience I had.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
I would travel more and maybe take an Irish history class so I could learn about Ireland while studying there. There are definitely some weeks I didn't do a whole lot when I could've just gone out and explored and I wish I did more of that.
Response from CIS Abroad

Hi Victoria! We're so glad to hear you got out of your comfort zone and had such a wonderful time in Ireland! It's also great to hear that that our CIS Abroad on-site staff were so helpful. Thanks for sharing your experience!

Exciting and Rewarding

The benefits of studying abroad are outstanding. In my time abroad, CIS provided academically stimulating environments, exciting excursions, and support for any of your needs. With CIS, the scary side affects of study abroad are lessened. Their support facilitated cultural immersion and allowed me to make the most out of my time in London and Barcelona. Afternoon tea, show on London's west end, a trip to the beautiful Calella, Spain, and a flamenco dance class is only of the few amazing experiences I had during my time abroad. My classes in both London and Barcelona inspired me and brought awareness to interests I never knew I had. Now that it is over, my experience has given me a new passion for learning and travel.I reccomend my program, or any time abroad to students everywhere.

The best summer EVER!

While looking into study abroad programs, I knew I wanted a program that would give me the support I needed to fulfill my dream of studying in London. CISAbroad was so supportive of me every step of the way throughout the study abroad process. Before, during, and after my time abroad, CIS made sure I had the resources I needed to be successful. The on-site staff in London were phenomenal and were always willing to help my peers and I when needed. CISAbroad's planned excursions added so much depth to my experience, and I wouldn't trade it for the world. I loved getting to meet other students from around the United States. I see myself staying in touch with some of these new friends for a lifetime, as we shared in such an unforgettable experience together. I would study abroad again with CIS in a heartbeat!

Totally worth it!

I loved my experience abroad and with CISAbroad. All of the staff was always willing to help. It was easy to schedule a phone appointment with staff before I left and the on-site staff was so supportive and always there to help if we needed her.

My host mom was the best . Carmen had 3 dogs which made it so much fun! She was a great cook and was always there to talk if I needed her. While I was there, she had two other students from other programs there as well, it was fun because we would all speak together in Spanish and talk about our days and weekend plans!

The only thing about my experience that was questionable about my experience was the university I attended. I loved my professors and my classmates, but the university itself was a little unorganized. They are a young university, but sometimes it took 30 minutes to an hour to begin an off-site activity because they were not organized.

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?
One day, I decided that I was going to try something that I had always heard about, but wasn't too keen on trying, but I did it anyway. Rabo del Toro... Bull Tail. And let me say, that was some of the best meat I have ever had!!!

The best few months of my life

The few months I spent in Edinburgh were truly some of the months of my life. I met so many wonderful people and instantly felt at home with the help of the amazing site director and the other students in the program. If I had the opportunity to go back I would in a heartbeat. There are so many opportunities to travel and the weekend trip to the Highlands was one of the highlights of my study abroad experience. There is so much to do and so much to see around Edinburgh - it is impossible to be bored! Simply taking a walk to Princes Street or to the Royal Mile offers you so many things to do. Pop into any cafe or the Starbucks on Princes Street (great view of the castle) or choose to discover some history with any one of the many free museums available.

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?
On the trip to the highlands the tour guide made haggis... I am, however, a vegetarian, but to accommodate for everyone he also made vegetarian haggis. I had never eaten anything like it before but it was so good! I was told the actual haggis (made from a sheep's intestines) was actually quite good as well!

Study Abroad in Ecuador

In Spring 2018, I studied abroad in Quito, Ecuador with CISAbroad. I had such an amazing time. My absolute favorite thing was all the planned trips CISAbroad sent us on. I became very close with the other people in my program this way. It was very important for me to always be doing something so these planned trips were very helpful. I also LOVED my host family I stayed with. They made me feel like home even though I was abroad I met the whole entire family and was regularly invited to family outings. I still talk to my host family on Whatsapp regularly. I was able to experience so much such as the history of Ecuador, all the different food they eat there, city life, and so much more. I would not have had such an amazing time if it were not for CISAbroad.

What would you improve about this program?
I do not think I would improve anything with this program because I had an amazing experience.

A New Second Home!

Having the opportunity to live in Australia for 4 amazing months is thanks to CISabroad. Every day I felt excited to see and experience something new. The CISabroad team helped me through the application process, and continued to be there even once I got back. The onsite staff felt like a family. They helped through ups and downs, and made sure we were always safe and happy. My favorite parts were the excursions that were provided by the program, but also the separate excursions I took on my own. They were a great way to get to know the other students in the program, as well as assimilate ourselves into the culture. It wasn't long before I started to feel like a true Aussie! Bond University is an amazing school. There is a lot of diversity, helpful faculty, and amazing facilities. I met so many people along the way; both on campus and off. The memories I made in Australia will stick with me forever! I can't wait to go back and reunite with friends! Thanks to CISabroad for the best experience of my life.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
If I did this over again, I would change the classes I took. I would take easier classes so that I had more time on the weekends to go out to other farther places in Australia.

Rome was life-changing

When you tell people your ethnicity, do you really know what that entails?
Last fall, I got to experience four months in the place my grandmother, and other relatives lived. Italy. Being Italian American, I had always wished to go to Italy to see what exactly it meant to be Italian. Luckily, I couldn't have experienced it any better, thanks to CISabroad. CISabroad had blessed me with such a phenomenal experience, and as I studied in Rome, I was also learning the culture, food, politics, and social happenings, thanks to my amazing CISabroad advisor. During my stay, I even had the opportunity to play for a football club, competing with and against local Roman men! I have never felt so confident meeting people, going places, and seeing things, and I owe it all to CISabroad.

What would you improve about this program?
I have no ways of improving the program, it was all perfect in my eyes.

The Most Amazing Experience of My Life!

Going into my semester abroad, I was super nervous about living in another country, especially without a support system. CISabroad calmed my nerves right away! From the very start of the trip they picked me up from the airport and helped me get settled into my apartment, and throughout the entirety of it they checked in and were always available for help and advice. Another thing I loved about CISabroad was the housing and school situation they placed me in. I was put into an apartment with other international students, making it extremely easy to meet lifelong friends. The location was in a family-friendly, safe, and centrally located area in Barcelona which I would not have traded for the world! As for the school, I attended the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona and instantly made lasting connections with my professors and fellow classmates. CISabroad gave me the opportunity to safely explore the beautiful city of Barcelona for four months while meeting amazing people and growing everyday. Overall, I would not have done my semester abroad any different and I have CISabroad to thank for this!

What would you improve about this program?
I would not change a thing! This program was so much better than anything I could have imagined.

Costa Rica

I loved my experience with CIS abroad. From the time I arrived to the time I left it was truly unforgettable. Excursions, housing, and academics were excellent. I could not have chosen a better country or time to go abroad! They helped me along the way and gave me the tools I needed. Veritas is a small university located just outside the Heart of San Jose. San Jose is surrounded by mountains and volcanos. Every weekend you can take an excursion to the beach or the rainforest. There are endless possibilities. The academics are great. The department is small and so are the classes so the teachers get to give a lot of one on one attention. The class dynamic is also very flexible. The host families will become like your second family quickly. They not only help you learn Spanish but introduce and immerse you in the culture from food to music to dancing. It will be an unforgettable experience.

What would you improve about this program?
My only recommendation would be for CIS to have an office and more personnel. Other study abroad programs had offices for students to go and it seemed really beneficial. Lisa was amazing and always trying to help us as much as she could. That being said she is only one person and that became difficult. I would say more personnel on hand for students in case she couldn't come would be very helpful.
