A life changing experience

I interned at a local clinic in Quito for 8 weeks for college credit as well as to better my Spanish and expand my world view. My program through World Endeavors provided just that. I had the most incredible experience learning in the clinic, practicing my Spanish in everyday life, living with an incredible host family, making new friends, and doing the most adventurous, amazing things around Ecuador. There were many challenges through out the trip, but I feel better prepared for my future! I could not recommend this experience enough. There is never a better time to step out of your bubble, expand your worldview, and change your life! I promise it’s worth it, and you’ll leave with more than just a certificate of completion.

Pros
  • Language immersion
  • Adventurous opportunities
  • New friends

It was like a dream...

I cannot say enough good about my experience in Nice, France. I was given the opportunity to take two weeks of French classes (which only took up about half the day, so I had free afternoons to explore the area) and then intern for 8 weeks with an organization in Villefranche. I was incredibly lucky. I was supported by the staff at France Langue and World Endeavors, but also welcomed with open arms by the president of the Association who not only helped me with professional tasks, but toured me around the area and even invited me to dinner for a home-cooked meal. My host mom also invited me to the theater with her and in lieu of making friends through the school since I was only there for 2 weeks, I actually made some friends through Bumble BFF! Overall, I wouldn't change a single thing about this experience. Despite some days being harder than others, it was so unbelievably worth it. I can't believe it was real!

Pros
  • Immersion and Cultural Experiences
  • Travel Opportunities
  • Professional experience
Cons
  • Not a smoke-free household

Environmental Conservation in Ireland

My experience in Ireland was incredible! I learned a ton about sustainability and even Irish wildlife from it. My internship and the experiences I was able to have in Dublin and other parts of the country with other interns on the weekend were all amazing. World Endeavors did a really great job with organizing my internship, getting housing, preparing for travel, etc. Especially because it was my first time outside the U.S., all the travel tips and travel lists they emailed me were very helpful.

What would you improve about this program?
Maybe small refund option for covid but nothin bad

An actual life-changing experience

I joined the volunteering program in Tanzania last summer.
It was a great experience from the very start until the end. The Women Empowerment project we took part in is really good. It's an ambitious project considering the context in which it is implemented but it's really important for the women and the children who live there.
There are a lot of challenges, starting from the women position in the community. Fortunately, Neema is really a good and strong project manager and has been capable of introducing the project by totally respecting traditions and costumes so that our presence there was welcomed and appreciated.
World Endeavors has been by our side throughout the entire period giving us all the advice and suggestions we needed to enjoy our time in Tanzania to the fullest!

Healthcare Volunteer in Quito

Last summer I volunteered at Basted Clinic in Quito, Ecuador for three weeks. I worked at the medical and social/behavioral health center with Dr. Andres Andrade. I supervised and taught his child-aged patients who had issues with drug & alcohol, ADHD, autism, and speech impediments. In my role, I monitored and supported the learning of groups of children while myself learning about the language and culture.

I spoke with the volunteer coordinator frequently up to my departure date. I had decided to do a program relatively last minute and she was very helpful, organized, and timely. She quickly was able to coordinate an opportunity for me. I was given a travel guide that explained some history, background information, what to expect, dos and dont's, and any other useful information. That guide was extremely helpful and prepared me for my trip.

Upon arrival to Ecuador, everything ran smoothly and my host family was very warm and receptive. There were other volunteers also housed there, which was great since we would often explore the city together in our spare time. Quito is a beautiful city with lots to offer. Many volunteers spent weekends traveling to the Galapagos islands, Baños, or other tourist attractions. My favorite part of the day was the commute back and forth. I took the bus around 1.5 hours each way to the clinic and I was able to see so much of Quito from the north to the south. My days at the clinic were flexible and I greatly enjoyed working with the children everyday. Everyone I interacted with was very welcoming. I also had another partner/intern to help me adjust and carry out my tasks. Overall, I learned a lot about the culture, customs, language all while helping the clinic.

What would you improve about this program?
The pace of life in Ecuador is much different than what we are accustomed to in the United States. Some of the spare time I had during my volunteering could have been better maximized. If you are not planning on taking Spanish classes during your stay, I would highly recommend studying beforehand.

Differences in culture

As soon as i arrived in Bangkok airport, i knew i was going to enjoy this internship. i experienced more than i could ever imagine. i began my internship in downtown Bangkok where many days i would walk roughly 5 km to my place of work. i wanted to experience Bangkok rather than hopping onto a bus/train and traveling to work that way. the people i met where very kind and the food they allowed me to try was unbelievable. learning about their religion was intriguing and although i'm not religious myself it was nice to learn the fundamental aspects of Buddhism. the places i were able to visit, Chaing Mai, Ayutthya, Pattaya city and phucket were all beautiful places in their own way!

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?
Throughout this experience i told myself i would try everything once. I was given the opportunity to try snails roasted in a pot, grasshoppers and meal worms fried in oil, intestines that were cooked. and pigs blood that was added to a certain noodle dish. Although some of the dishes i tried were not to my favor i am glad i was able to experience their culture and something new.

Intern in Ireland

My experience with World Endeavors was amazing. Everyone who works there is incredibly helpful! I worked with Andy and Johnna who both answered all my questions and were very attentive. The process is simple and applying is easy. It is a costly program but there are many payoffs. I was able to get a lot for my money including traveling the world. I met so many other students and learned so much and Irish government and culture. I networked and made a name for myself there and would now consider Ireland a second home. I was placed somewhere that allowed me to grow. This experience changed my life and is hands down the best thing I ever did. If you have hesitations about enrolling in this program then leave those hesitations at the door because this opportunity is exceptional !!

What would you improve about this program?
The only thing that is stressful is you are making payments before you know where you are going to be placed.

Absolutely Amazing

I have thoroughly enjoyed my experience here in London. Working at my internship was one of the main reasons why I believe it was so wonderful. My coworkers were/are amazing and I know I've made connections, friendships, and memories that will last a lifetime. I'm really going to miss everyone that I've met and all the lovely places I've been.

I never felt unsafe in London. I would go on evening runs in the Clapham area and never felt threatened or had a sense of insecurity. Of course you always need to have your wits about you, and watch what times you're out on the weekend (it's party central!). Everyone here is every helpful and friendly so if you have any questions, ask a local!

I'm going to miss London so much, and I can't wait to come back! Also, make sure to travel to countries outside of the GB too! Really convenient and not too expensive! I went to Belgium, Switzerland, and Ireland

What would you improve about this program?
I would allow us to be able to reach out to our host parents in advanced, of course not being over bearing or asking too many questions, but an informal introduction would have been nice.

Experience

It has been the best experience of my life. I highly recommend it! Going to Thailand helped me grow in so many ways (both personal and professional). People are extremely nice and willing to help you in any way possible. There is so much to do in this amazing country, the food is simply amazing and it has so many beautiful spots to visit. If you have time it is a must to visit koh yao noi and chiang mai you will not regret it.

Incredible Experience

World Endeavors worked very hard to make sure my experience in Sydney was the best. I always had some readily available in case I had any questions or concerns and I always felt like a top priority. I didn't get the chance to travel abroad in school so this program was the perfect opportunity after I had graduated. I've met friends who will last a life time and memories that I will remember forever. No matter how scary or impossible something like this may feel, it's 100% achievable and World Endeavors is there to help.

What would you improve about this program?
More opportunities to speak with the host family before arrival.
