As soon as i arrived in Bangkok airport, i knew i was going to enjoy this internship. i experienced more than i could ever imagine. i began my internship in downtown Bangkok where many days i would walk roughly 5 km to my place of work. i wanted to experience Bangkok rather than hopping onto a bus/train and traveling to work that way. the people i met where very kind and the food they allowed me to try was unbelievable. learning about their religion was intriguing and although i'm not religious myself it was nice to learn the fundamental aspects of Buddhism. the places i were able to visit, Chaing Mai, Ayutthya, Pattaya city and phucket were all beautiful places in their own way!

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?
Throughout this experience i told myself i would try everything once. I was given the opportunity to try snails roasted in a pot, grasshoppers and meal worms fried in oil, intestines that were cooked. and pigs blood that was added to a certain noodle dish. Although some of the dishes i tried were not to my favor i am glad i was able to experience their culture and something new.

My experience with World Endeavors was amazing. Everyone who works there is incredibly helpful! I worked with Andy and Johnna who both answered all my questions and were very attentive. The process is simple and applying is easy. It is a costly program but there are many payoffs. I was able to get a lot for my money including traveling the world. I met so many other students and learned so much and Irish government and culture. I networked and made a name for myself there and would now consider Ireland a second home. I was placed somewhere that allowed me to grow. This experience changed my life and is hands down the best thing I ever did. If you have hesitations about enrolling in this program then leave those hesitations at the door because this opportunity is exceptional !!

What would you improve about this program?
The only thing that is stressful is you are making payments before you know where you are going to be placed.

I have thoroughly enjoyed my experience here in London. Working at my internship was one of the main reasons why I believe it was so wonderful. My coworkers were/are amazing and I know I've made connections, friendships, and memories that will last a lifetime. I'm really going to miss everyone that I've met and all the lovely places I've been.

I never felt unsafe in London. I would go on evening runs in the Clapham area and never felt threatened or had a sense of insecurity. Of course you always need to have your wits about you, and watch what times you're out on the weekend (it's party central!). Everyone here is every helpful and friendly so if you have any questions, ask a local!

I'm going to miss London so much, and I can't wait to come back! Also, make sure to travel to countries outside of the GB too! Really convenient and not too expensive! I went to Belgium, Switzerland, and Ireland

What would you improve about this program?
I would allow us to be able to reach out to our host parents in advanced, of course not being over bearing or asking too many questions, but an informal introduction would have been nice.

It has been the best experience of my life. I highly recommend it! Going to Thailand helped me grow in so many ways (both personal and professional). People are extremely nice and willing to help you in any way possible. There is so much to do in this amazing country, the food is simply amazing and it has so many beautiful spots to visit. If you have time it is a must to visit koh yao noi and chiang mai you will not regret it.

World Endeavors worked very hard to make sure my experience in Sydney was the best. I always had some readily available in case I had any questions or concerns and I always felt like a top priority. I didn't get the chance to travel abroad in school so this program was the perfect opportunity after I had graduated. I've met friends who will last a life time and memories that I will remember forever. No matter how scary or impossible something like this may feel, it's 100% achievable and World Endeavors is there to help.

What would you improve about this program?
More opportunities to speak with the host family before arrival.

I had a good time in Argentina, volunteering at Chacras Organization. The coordinator that I worked with from World Endeavors worked with me and my university excellently! The place I lived was fantastic, it felt safe, had places to go and close to transportation. It fit with what I wanted sustainability with Spanish. The taxi ride was set-up to go to the place I was staying at and a laundry machine was in the place which was great!

I've always dreamed to go to Africa. I made my dream come true the 22nd of July 2017.
Thanks to World Endeavors I had the opportunity to choose the right program for me instead of being lost. World Endeavors offers the opportunity to do different kind of activities such taking care of "wild animals" or being a teacher, for example. I was undecided until the end and then I chose to become a teacher for 21 days. It was a great and formative experience. I had the opportunity to challenge some of my fear and to learn the best way to live in difficult situation. Initially, it was hard. It is not easy to adapt to a culture really different from yours but at the end I realized that these difficulties made my a better person and they allowed my to gain some soft skills. I'm sure I'll travel again with World Endeavors... who knows... maybe I'll go to Thailand to cuddle little elephants!

I couldn't ask for a better intern experience than the one I received with World Endeavors. If you know anything about physical therapy in the U.S., you are very limited to what you're allowed to do/see in a variety of clinics while doing your shadowing. In Ireland, however, this was not the case! I had the chance to help write patient notes, become familiar with their management software, and participate in their continuing education programs which detailed cutting edge technology and techniques.

Besides my internship being great, the actual country of Ireland was BEAUTIFUL! The internship was flexible enough allowing me to travel throughout Dublin and the whole country of Ireland. Check out my pictures below!

What would you improve about this program?
I specifically asked for pediatric physical therapy, and got placed in a general PT clinic which had virtually no pediatric patients ever. Even though they didn't match my experience up perfectly, I was able to learn so much!

A typical day went something like this: Leave for the bus by 7:11, board the bus by 7:20 give or take, get off around 8:10 or 8:15 and spend some time in a coffee shop before going to my internship placement, a nursing home, at 9. I was there till 5 everyday assisting the activities coordinators with various tasks to keep residents busy. Activities ranged from doing crosswords, quizzing them on history, reading poems, exercising, arranging flowers, playing cards, serving tea with biscuits twice a day and helping to maintain resident safety. I was able to do a great deal of traveling on the weekends and was able to do everything I wanted to while still doing my internship Monday thru Friday. I was able to take one Friday off as well to do some extra traveling. I grew so much as an individual and came back home much more confident and willing to try new things. One of the hardest parts was having to say goodbye to staff and residents who truly became my family during my 8 weeks. There were a few bumps along the way, but they were always minor and nothing I couldn't handle.

What would you improve about this program?
Sometimes I wished the nursing home would be closer to where I lived, yet it was great living so close to the city center and all the great restaurants and shopping (especially grocery stores!) A little more hands on nursing experience also would have been helpful, but I am grateful to the staff for allowing me to watch various things. I was also able to work on communication and other nursing skills that will make me a better nurse in the future.

The local support team was not available to help with trouble shooting once we got there. There were no language classes available as promised.

We enjoyed the placement but were not happy with the program's support when we needed assistance.

Response from World Endeavors

Hi Tracie,

I’m sorry to hear that you were not happy with our in country support. I wish we could have worked out a solution while you were still abroad. It sounds like you were on a short term volunteer program, rather than an intern program and in Costa Rica language training is included for all our programs four weeks or longer, while programs shorter than four weeks focus on the volunteer project in order to maximize time at the project. I apologize for any miscommunication regarding the language classes.

We strive to provide a balance of independence and support in our programs but I understand that balance is different for everyone and I'm sorry we didn't meet your expectations. We offer our participants a safe and secure environment in which to explore the local culture independently while providing opportunities for personal growth.

I'd love to talk with you further so we can make improvements for future participants; feel free to contact our office anytime with concerns and comments.
